*40 Hours and Counting: How long can Kid_A.......

Postby Kid_A on Fri Jul 25, 2008 8:08 pm

....go without sleep!?

So far I'm at 40 hours.

I almost hit a parked car while driving, and I dozed off at a stop sign. I tripped over my own foot and nearly crushed my dog. I read the same page of my book for 40 minutes before giving up! And no I did not smoke crack before hand.

This has intrigued me. I am sincerely interested in the length of time that Kid_A can stay up without falling asleep. Please make sure to post updates here and don't skimp on the details.

17 hours for me, as of now, are you up for a challenge?

Well kiddo, are you up for a challenge? Tell us when you get to sleep and I'll stay up another 15 hours and beat you.

14 hours behind you, nothing coffee, sugar and unhealthy food won't get me through. As I said, drop us a line when you drop off and I'll know how much longer to stay up.

Just tell us when you're off, remember, you have a 14 hours head start on me,

Once you get to 72 hours without sleep, you are legally insane from sleep deprivation. The hallucinations are pretty wild.

In fact, that was how Gary Larson often came up with his Far Side comics, by staying up for 48-72 hours at a time and writing down the ridiculous ideas that he came up with as a result.

Confirmed, after having slept only 4 hours in 2 days you start hearing and seeing things, military service taught me that much at least.

33 hours? Pfft. I had a bad weekend a couple of years ago where I was up for at least 60, prolly more. Thankfully the details of that wretched stretch of time has been somewhat repressed.

Of course, without the horrific impetus that motivated that sleepless stretch, I doubt I'd be up to the challenge. College all-nighters were a loooooong time ago.

Either way, try not to die in a car crash, Kid. Some of us around here would miss ya. :D

(let me also just say that I can't say how happy I am that this thread wasn't about how long you can go without ejaculating)

College one nighters usually don't last for more than one night, though.

These kinds of challenges never work for me. I'm usually awake for 7/8 of a day anyway, but without those few hours, shit starts going downhill quick.

The last few days I've been unable to get up before getting at least 10 hours of sleep, so this will be quite interesting.

Just do us a favor and don't do stuff that can hurt others, like driving without sleep. It'd just be nice not to be creamed by a sleeping driver.

Thank you.

I bet you can go at least 72

No worries, it's weekend, at most I'll be riding a bike.

See, if I got that kind of sleep regularly, I could probably go the distance. As is, I could probably beat the hell out of you guys in a sleeping contest. My personal record is 18 hours, cut short by a roommate who was making eggs. My stomach got the best of me on that occasion. Plus, there was no incentive to continue, other than sheer laziness.

Not for lack of trying though, it's just that whenever I've tried to get up early my body has refused to do what my brain (and the alarm clock) has been telling it and gone right back to sleep until 1 in the afternoon or so, taking the brain with it.

I've had those days. Unfortunately, they tend to be on days when I need to get up. Physics exams. Work. Those kinds of things.
