Honest to god question... re: female "co-worker"

Postby gdeangel on Tue Jul 29, 2008 6:36 pm

So a co-worker showed up the other day and told me she is leaving the company (i.e., fired). The she showed up in my office today with no brassier on (and the hardware was ostensibly alert.) It's incredibly sad that the first thing I'm thinking is: perhaps she is trying to salvage a sexual harassment case out of this before she is completely out the door. So, of course, I look the other way, read some papers, thank her for getting me the paperwork she was doing for me, etc. etc. ... and now, as tomorrow is her last day, I throw out the possibility - for comment by the veritable experts here - that I ought to take her out to lunch on her last day, or is that just asking for TROUBLE (obviously I had nothing to do with her getting sacked)?

Of course, like any sensible person, I intent to do, if anything, the exact opposite of whatever you folks tell me to do (I believe the term is "reverse barometer") but I figured at least someone should get a laugh out of my real world dilemma if nothing else.

For everyone else, sorry... the problem does not involve falcon punching anyone.

Well. If you're going to do the exact opposite of what is suggested then I suggest NOT waiting until the next day after she's fired to take her out to dinner and DO completely give in to your sexual desire. ;)

I honestly think that you should take her out to lunch for her last day of work, and keep it in your pants until the day after she's fired. Colleagues go out for lunch all the time, it's no big deal and long as you're not sticking your meat into her at the diner restroom.

You are aware that sexual harassment can be based on "hostile environment", meaning looking at them in a way that makes them"uncomfortable" in the workplace - doesn't apparently matter that there is something unusual going on to look at ... Seriously, I'm pretty sure you could trump up a sexual harassment claim, and a support it with an, "oh, look, so-and-so co-worker tried to see her socially outside of work (forget to mention in the complaint it was after she was terminated). That place was teeming with come-on's and inappropriate behavior". That's why in a very catch-22 world, it's maybe better to have a "co-worker to co-worker" lunch, size up the situation a little better, etc. rather than to bust into a candlelit dinner and such.

And beyond that, suppose it was neither a come-on or entrapment. Suppose she was just uncomfortable a took off her bra for a few minutes. Maybe there was a draft. Did any of you horn dogs think of that??

is she likely to bring up a sexual harassment suit?

Seems like it's not worth the hassle for just sex

Stick it in her.

Ummmm... I was talking about HER hardware... not mine! Maybe I should have said software. You know, the stuff that's visibly defined through the shirt when a woman goes around with no brassier. Get the picture. They were practically pushing the blouse an inch off her chest. Christ man... I was to busy wondering what the hell she thought she was doing and thinking about how to not get sued to get an erection...

And in this shitty economy, what out of work person wouldn't bring a sexual harassment suit if there was enough chance to get some $$$ out of it. I've only worked with her a couple of times. She seems nice, not at all slutty, so I have no idea, and I don't want to stick anything anyplace that it might get cut off! It's really just about lunch, and whatever else could possibly happen, including me getting deposed by a greasy haired, fast talking plaintiff's lawyer.

 Ok. I get it now.

On a serious note, you're the only one here that knows what kind of person she is so good luck with that. I only gave you my opinion as someone who has no idea who you're talking about. The fact that you were thinking about a possible lawsuit is the reason why I tell you to take caution. I was just going with your line of thinking that is unless you're just an overly paranoid person. :?

No, I'm not particularly paranoid. I just happen to be in an area where unemployment is very high and economic outlook particularly dim. Money first, pussy second.

I would be willing to bet that she has no sinister intentions but incase she does, why not wait until the next day after she's fired. ;)

Personally I would go on what kind of person she is. Does she have morals? Does she lie to get what she wants? Does she munipulate people inorder to fulfill her own wishes? These are just a few things that my mind would process. If the answer is no than I would go for it but if it's yes than I'd probably proceed with caution. That's the best advice I can give you under the these circumstances.

Dude, just take her out to a nice but inexpensive restaurant when ever you feel comfortable. I'd say her last day, but that's just me.

Decent looking women do not show up in the workplace bra-less by accident. Unless you work in a fitness center or strip club that is.

I would say she was hitting on you. Go for it.

Don't push it. When she's been off work for a week or so, ring her up. ask her how she's coping. See where things go from there.

That's too passive for my taste. If we're being subtle, I would have intentionally given her some wrong information, and then called her to correct your mistake and use that as an ice breaker.

Oh, and then f*ck her tits, or some such other lewd act. I mean, if she's not wearing a bra, she's asking for it, right?

If you're interested, call her. Ask her how she's coping without wages. I dunno, offer to babysit her cat while she gets a job interview.

You are now past the point at which any apparent interest from her can be imagined as a lead-up to a sexual harrasment case.

I do have to add though, that a reasonable person can usually tell if a potential mate (temp or perm) is interested. I have never had to stop in the middle of a "maybe we'll do it" scenario to wonder if I was being set up for a court case.

But as this is a forum where unlikely dilemmas are aired, watch out for a doozy from my past when I get a spare few minutes to put the details in order.
