Batman: Dark night film discussion. (one minor spoiler)

Postby brooksieb on Wed Jul 30, 2008 5:30 pm

Overall great film i think the joker was definately my favourite character but people claim that the use of knives the joker uses will increase knife crime: How? Why?! it definately wont because i don't think it will hit very close to home but you'll always get the idiot both adult/teen (even children) that supposedly gets influenced but i don't think it will get that much ridicule if it does happen.

So 9/10 shame the batmobile got fucked up, that was the best car!

Edit: RIP Joker (the man that played him) died on febuary 2008.

Best movie I've seen in a very long time. The Joker was by far the best character simply because he brought a different element into a series that used to be for kids. He was sadistic, twisted, psychopathic, murderous, and incredibly fun to watch.

It was pretty good, doesn't stand up upon repeated viewings though.

Really doesn't stand up, or is just less awesome? i.e. not worth the fucking 9.5 imdb gave it.

well it wasn't worth 9.5 in the first place, but yeah I was considering leaving midway through the second time round. Aside from one or two set pieces there wasn't much to keep me entertained when I already knew the plot.

Best movie I've seen this year. It's at least as good as the first Bale Batman flick, if not better.

I didn't think anyone could ever do Joker better than Nicholson, but dear gawd. Heath Ledger's death was a tragic loss, but his swan song was by far the best performance of his life.

Well worth the 9.5 stars, in my opinion.

I haven't seen it yet but I'm planning to see it, and because i've heard it's so good - I'm going to take the effort to see it at an imax (which will be a first for me)

As far as good characters are concerned - I think that a baddy gives the actor far much scope to develop the character.

mind you...
With that said - just look what a great job Arnie made of Mr Freeze. He gave him a totaly different voice and should of gotten an oscar for the way he conveyed the pain and inner turmoil of loosing his wife. What a berk.

I know someone who has seen it four times already, and I think he calls me a freak for not seeing it already...

He has a mad Joker obsession.. He needs to go see a psychiatrist just because of it. I'm serious.

By the way.. His name is Heath Ledger.

Well worth seeing on the Imax - I went to the one in Brum - it's only a couple of quid more than normal Cinema - yet uber awesome.

I thought it stood up to a second viewing.

And the plot wasn't any big surprise. Having been an avid fan of the Batman comics as a kid, and having seen all of Christopher Nolan's films, it was pretty easy to predict the outcome from all of the foreshadowing in the first act.

Joker had more screen time than any of the others mentioned in the poll, and was also a consistent character. Meaning, he didn't have to change between playing Bruce Wayne or Batman, or Harvey Dent or Two Face. So it's not entirely the easiest poll to answer.

I don't think the Joker's knives are a legitimate criticism. He used them all the time in the comic books.

The joker was probably the best character alright. What's Heath Ledger gonna do next?

I think all the characters kicked ass (credit to Nolan), but I don't think anyone can argue against the Joker. By far the best movie I've seen in a long time.

heath ledeges best preformance by far too bad it was his last.

its a creepy movie not because of the joker but becase you know that there are ppl out there who will kill and bring terror to a city just because they can.

I just saw it last night, great flick. The look of two-face was awesome.

With Heath Ledger gone though, the ending was a stinger. Don't we all want to see more of the Joker? Well, now we can't.....

And what is the deal with the Batman films always killing off his enemies?

I thought it was great, though I personally am not going to go see it multiple times (well... I might be persuaded, depending on the attractiveness of the people who ask me, but that has little to no bearing on the greatness of the film.

Each writer who truly gives the Bat Mythos a new aspect comes up with a new villain. If there's more movies, I'd like to see original villains.

My favourite "new" villain was Harley Quinn.

A character from the "Batman Adventures" animated series that was so intruiging that she crossed over into the mainstream DC Universe. The Joker's girlfriend (sorta).

If I can find it, there's a lovely quote from Jimmy Olsen when he realises he's dependent on her goodwill.

I went to see Dark Knight because I had heard it was kickass and because Aaron Eckhart was playing Harvey Dent. However, Heath Ledger's acting was absolutely amazing (I'm a pretty avid theatre student, so that is something coming from someone growing more and more critical of major actors' acting), so the Joker gets my vote by far. Also, props to his makeup artists for making him look nothing like himself.

Yes I like the make-up job because it was all cracked n' stuff. Really just added to the demented look of his character.
