This is really sad. I don't understand allowing a child to fire an automatic weapon?

Aren't eight year olds supposed to be shooting BB guns at pop cans? I thought fully automatic weapons were illegal...I guess I must be wrong? Expect new gun laws to be passed over this issue.

Exactly. the respnsible thing to do would have been to shoot the Uzi out of the kid's hands. The most effective (and most manly) solution by far.

Quite right. If that kid had been taught about responsible Uzi-Handling at the age of five, and if bystanders had guns with which to shoot him before he screwed up, then this tragic accident could have been easily prevented.

Indeed. That boy was a threat. Now if we had a properly armed populace, he would've had a round buried in his skull before he could recklessly discharge that assault weapon, potentially putting an innocent civilian at risk.

i thought is would only be a matter of time before this story popped up here. the best statement so far in this thread is this:

Guns don't kill people, idiots kill people!

My sons, 7 and 9 have both shot a rifle. a .22 and with extreme supervision. I couldn't imagine letting either of them handle my .9mm, 12 gauge or my 30/30, as these weapons would knock them on their asses. Clearly, this is a case of the gene pool cleaning itself out a little bit.

Tragic story, but entirely the fault of the parent and range operator.

This was clearly a euphamism.

If all I had was .9mm, i'd stop referring to myself as a man, lay off the steroids for a bit and join a support group.

Personally, I'm just impressed by the precision of BES's measuring apparatus.

Clearly, the father is so stupid that he still doesn't know what happened or why...he's also a director of medicine to boot!

Charles Bizilj, Christopher's father, said he could not figure out what happened. "This accident was truly a mystery to me," said Bizilj, the director of emergency medicine at a Connecticut hospital. "This is a horrible event, a horrible travesty, and I really don't know why it happened."

I handed a mini-uzi to my kid and he died! How did that happen??

Damn, it would be funny if it wasn't so fucking fucked up.

That dad would probably let his kid shoot that rifle too....
The very last guy to shoot it at the end of the clip is the only person that should be shooting it....the rest of them are just a liability.

Seconded. Guns are not toys, and should not be treated as such.

You know, I would like to make the point that this tragic accident happened in Yankee territory. You could never find a Redneck stupid enough to let their little kids play with automatic guns!
