"The media" isn't a thing. You were told it was a thing by a group pf people you're about to identify as "the media". or you're going to run away.

This is Symm's schtick for this week it appears - a hysterical crusade to stamp out colloquial speech. He's been galumphing after Scott from thread to thread repeating this line.

Scott is correctly, in this instance, using the term "the media" to refer to practitioners of a profession with common conventions of practice. The presence of a controlling mind is not necessary.

What profession is he referring to?

It's an "if you lived in America...." thing

I thought it might be. Do you have a way to rationalise it to those that don't?

While "the media" could refer to practitioners of the profession of journalism, or of actors, or even of book publishers - the application of logical context would seem to indicate to a reasonable person he was referring to the first of that short list.

Scott's phrase "doin what the media does" is obviously a reference to the process of - what is known in media theory - "gatekeeping."

I hope that put to bed this latest dramatic interlude.

Absolutely raised the roof here at Minnesota Delegate Convention last night! We are sending 32 delegates (out of 40 total) to Tampa Bay for the National Convention! We will be heard!
I hereby declare that the Republican party in Minnesota, heretofore, hath changed forever!

Ron Paul Sweeps Minnesota

The Ron Paul revolution has completed its sweep over the Minnesota Republican Party convention here.

Paul backers won 12 of 13 Republican National Convention delegate slots filled in balloting Saturday, May 19, at Rivers Edge Civic Center.

They might have taken all 13 seats if a Paul state delegate had not graciously conceded the final slot to Rep. Michele Bachmann.

The results mean 32 of Minnesota’s 40 national delegates to the Republican convention in Tampa in August will be committed to Paul. Supporters of the Texas congressman and presidential candidate won 20 of the 24 national delegate slots filled at Republican congressional district conventions earlier this spring.

The vote was a well-organized coup by the Paul newcomers over longtime party activists.

“It shows that the Ron Paul people are extremely organized and very serious about winning those spots, and the non-Ron Paul folks were not as well organized,” said Republican National Committeeman Jeff Johnson.

Marianne Stebbins, Paul’s state campaign chairwoman, said their victory “sends a message that we’re not just giving lip service to liberty and smaller government — we’re serious about it…”

His supporters reportedly hope to influence the party platform, and his victory in Minnesota could have a practical impact. He needs the support of five state delegations in order to have his name placed in nomination at the national convention, which would allow him to give a prime-time speech.

Stebbins said if national party leaders are smart, they will welcome Paul supporters with open arms…

“We have had bitter battles in the past at endorsing conventions, where people were at each other’s throats, but we came together in the end and stood by the candidates,” she said. “I think we’re already unifying.”

The Paul crowd pulled off a bloodless coup. Unlike other states where brawls broke out between Paul fans and Romney supporters, the Minnesota convention was a relatively civil affair. There were no fistfights or shouting matches on the convention floor…

As tension mounted between the Paul newcomers and the longtime activists they displaced, Johnson took the microphone to address that issue head on. He told the delegates to acknowledge their disagreements.

To the “Ron Paul lovers,” he said that many in the old guard think “you don’t care about the Republican Party.”

“If that makes you mad, make sure it doesn’t happen,” Johnson said. He called on Paul’s supporters to stay active and help elect all GOP candidates.

To the “Ron Paul haters,” he said, “get over it. If we don’t grow, we die as a party…”

So, Scott, what you're saying is that Mitt Romney "de-won" yet another state?

There are quite a few celebrities who are Ron Paul fans (e.g. Vince Vaughan). I'm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, they are celebrities and their views should be discounted out of hand. On the other hand... Vince Vaughan! Korn!

Sorry, I was actually commenting on the fact the Jonathan Davis said he was a Satanic Atheist. I thought I had read somewhere he was a Presbyterian.

One of the original members of Korn left the band in order to give up drugs and become a Christian, perhaps you read about that fella?

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/2012 ... -tea-party

Massie scores key win for Tea Party

Thomas Massie’s Republican primary victory Tuesday could set an example for campaigns across the country, some believe.

The involvement of the tea party, super political action committees and Ron and Rand Paul in Massie’s campaign caught nationwide attention and earned front-page ink from the New York Times.

Massie won 19 out of the 20 counties in Kentucky’s Fourth Congressional District and beat six other Republicans for the nomination for Congress with 45 percent of the vote. He will face Democrat Bill Adkins in the general election.

The large amount of money spent by the super political action committee Liberty For All in the final month of a campaign could set a precedent for super PACs in other races, said Trey Grayson, who is a former Kentucky Secretary of State and now heads Harvard’s Institute of Politics.

“I could see that as a model going forward with the remaining primaries during the year,” Grayson said. “It was successful.”
Liberty For All's role in election

Texas college student John Ramsey, 21, put in $900,000 of his own money earned through investments made by his family to fund Liberty For All, which started in Austin, Texas as an organization to support Ron Paul’s presidential bid. They opened an office in Bellevue to coordinate a massive campaign in support of Massie. They spent $800,000 on television and radio ads and telephone calls to more than 50,000 people in the district, said Preston Bates, executive director of Liberty For All. They also enlisted about 50 volunteers, mostly high school and college students.

http://www.ronpaul2012.com/2012/05/23/r ... -kentucky/

At The American Spectator blog, James Antle echoes my sentiments concerning Thomas Massie’s win and Ron Paul’s influence:

Ron Paul finished a distant second in the Kentucky primary, despite his son being the state’s junior senator. But a Paul supporter — a backer of both Ron and Rand (who reciprocated) easily won the Republican nomination in the fourth congressional district.

Thomas Massie defeated his nearest opponent in a four-way race 44.8 percent to 28.6 percent. The district has been represented by a Republican for all but six years since 1967 — when quite conservative Democrat Ken Lucas held the seat — making Massie a heavy favorite to win the general election in November. Politico referred to it as “another Randslide.”

True - there are some Paul supporters who use AR15s, others who prefer the SKS with semi-auto conversion, and still others who like to go old school with a M4 Carbine.

Celebrities can be and are intelligent. It just happens to be unwise to open your mouth in Hollywood or in the public fora in general.

Trolls cannot stop the Revolution! The Libertarian movement will march on without you and other phonies and barbarians, all the way into the White House! One way or another, Paul is getting in.

Mitt Romney Holds Private Meeting With Rand Paul

If anything suggests that Senator Paul is coming into his own as a genuine GOP power player, this story does. Romney, who has ostentatiously made a point of not running as an explicitly Tea Party-linked candidate, has thus far only shown this level of deference to people who he suspects he will need down the line.

And why would Romney need Paul? ABC News breaks it down:

Tea Party members have routinely expressed their reluctance to vote for Romney. In exit polls from the Republican primary, people who said they supported the Tea Party remained split among him, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. Romney performed significantly better with Republican voters who said they weren’t strong backers of the Tea Party.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll from April reported that 41 percent of Americans said they supported the Tea Party. (23% say they support the Democrats, 34% Republicans.)

Jackie Bodnar, a spokeswoman for the Tea Party group Freedom Works, described what she called a “reverse coattails” strategy that she hopes will work in November: Tea Partiers enthusiastically voting for local candidates in November, and, while they’re in the polling booth, pulling the lever for Romney as well.

“I‘m definitely happy that he’s talking with limited government conservatives like Rand Paul,” Bodnar said. “It’s a victory in and of itself that the candidates are speaking the Tea Party language.”

Niether the Romney campaign nor Paul’s office has released any details of the Wednesday meeting, and that’s probably best for Romney.

This is quite an impressive case that Romney needs Paul – especially given the remaining fear that the elder Paul’s delegates might try to stage a coup at the Republican National Convention.
