Even if you claim they're anti-gay, that still doesn't mean the business itself has practiced any actual discrimination, which means that it is blatantly illegal for a city government to even threaten to block the business based on a political comment.

Yes and the politician in question hasnt backed down, or admitted that he couldnt actually block anything, right?

This whole thing has been rather upsetting to me, mostly because every time I hear or see "Chick-fil-A" it inspires Pavlov's Dogs style drooling.
Has anyone here tried Chick-fil-A's Coleslaw?

I really hope there aren't any picketers to get past.

I don't find that surprising. It's what they should do.

There is nothing bigoted in my statements, and most of the other members of CC don't outright label anything they disagree with as bigotry as you and your pals are quite fond of doing.

Something funny I saw about the protests/calls for boycotts. I always find it interesting when someone boycotts one thing, but totally oblivious on other purchases they make day to day.

(funny as in chuckle, not as in "omg bigotry is funny". Just to clarify before someone tries to twist any words here.)

Honestly, it's a great analogy which holds true. You refusing to accept this is simply because you're a (bad)* bigot.

Until you can come up with good reasons for being opposed to interracial marriage, (as well as gay marriage), then it will remain correct for people to label you as a (bad) bigot.

True, but I'd rather see people make some sort of public action for causes they believe in (whether or not I support their case), rather than just sitting on the sidelines thinking it isn't better to do anything because of the scale of the issue.

You know, that picture makes a great point, but people make trade-offs everyday. Some view this as a compromise (i.e. loss, or hypocritical behavior) of one's moral stances; however, to me, making trade-offs is reasonable, thus justifies this inconsistency.

Should all Americans whose representatives voted for a war in Iraq be held responsible for the deaths of all civilians in that country? How about only the direct innocent civilian deaths which the government labels "collateral damage"?

Some things are simply beyond our control, yet people view such actions (e.g. voting, buying gas) as necessary for their lives and loved ones.

I don't disagree, like I said I get a chuckle out of it. Some are very adamant about their positions and dot realize exactly what other day to day purchases support, or where other companies that aren't as vocal use their money towards.

I agree BBS, common sense has got to be used. Like you said, it does make a good point but perhaps not entirely 100% feasible. But, one really needs to think about hypocritical behaviors at some point. Maybe not common sense or reasonable, but thought it would be something to think about when people get behind things like this but don't realize what their other actions (or, "inaction" (ie: acceptable actions that are against their stance)) actually do / support.

It is, in my opinion, a bit disingenuous to claim that if you can't make 100% ethical choices all the time, you shouldn't even try to make any ethical choices.

The only troll here is your brain which trolls the rest of your body with bigotry.

So, you concede it would be bigoted to oppose interracial marriage, and if I simply changed "homosexual" to "interracial" in your post, then you'd indeed be making a bigoted post. So tell me, how exactly are you not being bigoted by opposing homosexual marriage? Why is one form of bigotry "not bigotry" to you, but another form is?

It'll be interesting to hear the rationalizations you make for your bigotry.

All true. I think government is inherently evil, but I couldn't survive without driving on government-owned roads. I think the justice system is hopelessly flawed, but if I get robbed I'll be sure to call the cops. I think fiat currency is worthless, but as long as the grocery store continues to accept it, I'll continue to bring it.

You do what you gotta do and play the hand you were dealt. Changing the world is what you do in your off hours.

Still, that is a great picture!

-------

And a fine opinion it is. I don't think I disagree. But as technology advances and electric vehicles become more common place, it's interesting how many adamet supporters of chick fil a boycott are willing to speak up against that but still choose to purchase oil based vehicles (even web economically feasible for the household to purchase otherwise).

I do understand in a practical sense not everyone is able to back their "ethical positions" 100% of the time due to economic restrictions. The chuckle I get is from the ignorant or ones who are able to make these decisions economically and fully and aggressively support causes, yet refuse to support that cause in other areas of life just as adamantly.

There's no such thing as "interracial marriage" because we're all members of a single human race descended from a common ancestor, so why would NS or anyone oppose such a thing?
