I've seen two recent highly enjoyable sci-fi fliks lately:

Moon

and.... that one where those two dudes wake up on that spaceship, and it gets real serious in the first 5 minutes and builds the ENTIRE time, succesfully too. Awesome film! Came out in 2008, 9 or maybe this year? Not sure.. the name is something like "Pandorum"

An artist did a 30 min 'paraphrasing' of Blade Runner, with over 12,000 watercolor paintings. What does that mean? Well, see below I suppose.

The book is million times better.

Books are always better. Dune is a great read and an ok movie. 2001: a Space Odyssey was a great film for 1968, but needs to be seen on the BIG screen to be fully appreciated. When Alien (1979) premiered it was in a league of it's own and Blade Runner (1982) also by Ridley Scott shares a similar status.

Predator (1987) was well done and I also liked Predator vs Alien. I just watched the Total Recall (2012) version with Colin Farrell and liked it better than the original.

The post-apocalyptic tale A Boy and his Dog (1975).

I think they did a very good job with Ender's Game. I think it's faithful enough to the book to not disappoint. I don't like the change to Bernard but I think it stands well as a good adaptation.

I've not read the books for Ender's Game, but the movie was silly. He's supposed to be trained up and born to be a genius in strategy.

What is the statute of limitations on spoilers? I haven't watched the final season of Breaking Bad, but people don't see too concerned about spoiling the ending (even though I can only watch the show on Netflix and the final season won't be released for a little while). Ender's Game, the novel, has been out for many years. Why should people feel bad about spoiling that book?

Movie might be surprisingly different from the books.

Spoilers for TV shows kinda suck, but endings are not as big--in terms of 'aw shucks, ya told me the ending'--for TV shows as they are for movies. TV shows are mainly entertaining for the ride itself (which explains why its viewers love the many tangents and filler).

I wouldnt click on the Breaking Bad thread cause I know it will likely contain spoilers.

This thread is just about sci-fi movies so people may not realise ti contains spoilers.

Just cuase im curious, isnt the definition of science fiction that it should be about stuff on earth, u know cyborgs, robots, futuristic societys here on earth... i read somewhere that it should be about that. In that case is star wars really a sci fi? cause it takes place in a galaxy far far away and not here?

I just watched Los cronocrímenes. It was a silly little movie but well worth the diversion I think. I liked it. Its on Netflix instant-watch. I suggest not knowing much going into it, even the Netflix synopsis.
