Over the weekend I realised Colombia are ranked fourth in the world. What a shit ranking system that is.

do you even know who plays for colombia? They have a hell of a team, even without falcao, definitely the best colombian team we've ever seen. They are top 10 most definitely.

France has a rather easy group, but I'm not all that confident. Switzerland is ranked 6th right now and is also probably the best swiss team I've ever seen (let's not forget they won vs spain in group stage of last world cup too).
I am completely clueless of what honduras is worth so I don't trust them. Ecuador seems pretty shitty, I just know Valencia there and I think they got their qualification just ecause they play their home games in Quito, but I'm not all that confident either (well they did 2-2 against england 3 days ago right?)

All I know is that for the 2010 world cup people thought we had a very easy group with south africa, uruguay and mexico and we ended up last of the group lol.

I do have to say I like the group of players we are bringing to brazil. Probably not the most talented french players in activity; but a close knit group with lots of young talents and hard working elders. (Not the clowns that went on strike in the middle of the 2010 world cup)
Anyway, our ambition is to rebuild our team, trying to make it up to quarter finals in this world cup to gain experience to help us win the eurocup 2016 where we will be the host nation.

Honduras fight dirty, England had a nasty 0-0 draw against them where they threw out some leg-breaking crunching tackles, it was miraculous no one got injured. Don't underestimate Ecuador either, their players will at least be acclimatised to playing in the temperatures.

Yes, that s kind of the idea I have about honduras. A team with no talent but extremely fierce that will defend harshly. Hope we won t get any injuries...

And no, Honduras is not really all that good. They still play some kind of naive football, they're like a light African team, with a lot of athletic strength, can score in a counterattack or with a potent shot but they are weak on the defensive side, you just need to move the ball around.

Anyway taco... You re not talking a lot about mexico. Do you think they will make it through in the group stage?
And how well do you guys do generally when you face honduras? I guess it s a team you play often?
Who is your greatest rival by the way, USA or some central american country?

Fastposted i guess you partly answered.

I'm not talking about Mexico because it seems that they will suck badly. You know the story, during the qualifiers players didn't like the stern treatment by the coach, the moral was not good, there were 3 emergency coaches and the current coach had too little time to work. The best player we have, Vela, isn't going to the WC because of the treatment he received during the Gold Cup or America Cup I don't remember. The only other creative player we had, who was to be the 10 of the team broke his leg in a friendly. Two players from the local champion Leon are very tired, played 46 games for the league + cup + Copa Libertadores. The best striker we have, Oribe Peralta is not in his best these days.

So, I don't think we'll do good. Most likely we beat Camerun and lose to Brazil and Croatia. The players are potentially capable of winning the 3 games though, so I guess it'll all depend on how they feel in 4 days. Mexico plays very good vs Brazil all the time, somehow the fact that Brazil is offensive makes Mexico give his best games vs them.

All the centroamerican teams play vs Mexico as if it was a matter of life or death. They think Mexico feels like the last coke of the desert so they try to show us every time. So, any other team of the same level of Mexico shouldn't have as much trouble to beat them. But yes, Honduras and the US should be the strongest along with Mexico in the area.

Would you say that honduras is better than costa rica? A spanish friend of mine told me that if costa rica had been in an easier group they would make it.

Regarding mexico, i heard it was the team with the record of most games lost in the world cup history. If you guys do bad, you can always beat your own record. I don t know, I think that mexico often does better than expected, so it s hard to say.

Costa Rica played good during the qualifiers, but I think they are of very similar level right now. Normally Honduras is better than Costa Rica. I didn't know about that stat of games lost but makes sense, MExico almost always makes it to the WC because of the weak qualifying zone.

If there is enough interest, I'll also take bets on the number of rigged matches in this world cup.

Also, I don't get ESPN. So I'll have to find a stream somewhere when things open up.

sorry americans, this was your only chance to make it through... pray for cristiano ronaldo not to recover.

ESPN purchases or attempts to purchase anything related to sports. They even bid on the Winter Olympics (which is the only thing Sweden is good for except for Meatballs, according to someone named Gillipig I think), but got beat out by one of the main broadcast networks.

We're also good at making furniture, and alcoholic beverages, and weapons, and music, and.....well that's pretty much it really but still, not just winter sports. We're not really good at making meatballs though, the best meatballs I've eaten were greek meatballs. They have more flavour.

Oh and we're good at that science stuff too. But not meatballs, that's a myth.

I can make em, but if you want them to taste good you should get a Greek to do it. We've got to give the Greeks something to be proud about don't we? Something that didn't happen 2000 years ago that is.

Don't. If you're around people who know anything about football they'll see through that shit immediately, try to stay silent for most of the time, people always think you look intelligent if you're quiet. If you're going to blabber you need to know what you're talking about. Here's a tip, try to look like you already know how the game is gonna go but you don't want to spoil it for the others. And don't make any predictions. You'll be the quiet wise one.

here is another tip: go check what bookies say about a game you're about to watch. Depending on the odds, use the according phrase to say how certain you are of the result. If you're wrong, at least you said something that made the most sense for football fans; it's just that shit happened and the underdog got a result! ;)

So we did a sweepstake at work and got four teams each (yes it's a small company). I got Colombia, Chile, Algeria and Australia. At least one of my teams will get to the quarter finals..

I can't believe how easy the Argentina group is!

Try to decide which bets to go for on the World Cup. Will take a look on Paddy Power tonight. :D

Also, the Independent is always shit.
