The MLB has scouts all over the world who judge players in Japan & South America. If they think they can compete in America the player is offered millions of dollars. Just think of 2 of the biggest Japanese players, Ichiro & Daisuke Matsuzaka, they were extremely successful in Japan, but then they were offered millions of dollars & now they play in America. In South America it is a dream a lot of kids have to be discovered by an MLB team & to play in America with the best ball players in the world while being able to support their families. I highly doubt the best soccer team in America calls themselves world champions though.

So because America has more money, they have better players? World championships don't deal with clubs, they deal with countries. So those good japanese players would still play for Japan.

The MLB is pretty much a league of the most elite baseball players in the world. So if your club wins the World Series, you are the best club in the world at that point, so you are called world champions. If you want to know the world champion country vs. country, you would probably have to wait for the Olympics

The point is that the US does not involve itself with the rest of the world yet they act like they do. They don't play other countries. Period.

The MLB only has the most elite players in the world because hardly anyone else actually plays the sport.

are you a dumbass thats what this thread is about, people have been saying, and what people who can read and function in society have written

and we do not call ourselves world champions in baseball its called the "world cup" obviosly we didnt win the world cup as it is two teams from the U.S. competing against each other
In baseball it's called the "World Series"...you can't get more "World Champion" then that.

"We won the world series, because we beat the Toronto team and the other 28 American teams."

What a joke.
Just get this out of it. He mistook world cup with world series, or is brainwashed that the US has any chance at world cup within the next 50 years.

yeah i meant world series

... Well, American teams claim to be world champions, I believe, where they are pretty much undoubtedly the best at those sports nobody else in the world plays beyond the hobby for unusual people level.

... What other country plays football? (the kind with all that violence and helmets..). Baseball? Sure Japan has some good players, but all the best of them come to the States. Basketball? Some great Eastern European players.. but those guys too end up in the US to play with the best.

QFT. We're not even the best in basketball anymore. If you want to call yourself the best then play against the best.

Have you seen national basketball teams? I doubt it. You always expect to win because you're "USA USA USA" but it's a shock because you don't even care for the other countries involved and think they are nothing (see FIBA World Chamionships + FIFA World Cup).

oh sure bring soccer into it, it sucks. But meh I agree we aren't eh world champions. WE're only the world champions in arogence and obesity.

Dammit Unriggable, are you going to continue to make excellent rebuttals all night or does anybody else get to make a couple.

Yes, the point is that nobody knows who's the best until there's a tournament involving the best from around the world. The Olympics usually showcase the world's best. If the US beats everyone else in whatever sport then they deserve to be called World Champions.

Have you all forgotten that Major League Baseball teams are stocked from players all over the world, not to mention that whoever wins the World Series of MLB is the best team in the world. Name one team on the planet outside the US or Canada that might be able to beat Boston. There isn't one. The japanese champion or cuba champion couldn't hope to stay within 20 runs of Boston in a nine inning game. Considering Boston's diversity among the team roster, and the undeniable fact that no other non MLB team would stand a chance against them, they desereve the title World Champions. My lowly Kansas City Royals, with a record of 69-93 this year would still wax the winners of the Japan series. Now if every player were to play on a team for their country, would the US dominate, no. The baseball world cup proved that. The WORLDS best baseball players come to play in the major leagues which just happens to be in the US and Canada, and so their championship is the World Series.

I would say that the NFL and MLB, and perhaps even the NBA (though I'm unsure on the NBA, and would be willing to change that opinion given evidence) are so far removed talent-wise from club competition in other countries that their champions can deserve to be called World Champions. The reason we don't play other league's club teams in those respective sports would be that it's a long distance for something of a formality. This is not to say that the American players are the best in the world, because that's simply not true (I mean, it's kinda hard - 300 million of us, 6.4 billion of you) but the world dominance of American club teams in American football, baseball, and perhaps basketball should be accepted, given the fact that they are the premier sports leagues in the world. Sort of like the Champion's League champ declaring itself world champion, if that competition wasn't so damned confusing.

The champions league isn confusing..

Champions league is different though. It is a multi-national sporting competition, which represents about 50 different countries who have the best teams in the world. Also, the World Club Cup tried to create an international one with South American and Asian teams as well as European, but that has failed really.

Btw, for the best country in the world, we have the World Cup, something which actually involves the world, not just a country.
