OFFICIAL MATCH REPORT
Not of the Man U game, I'm not gonna talk about that (great Rafael goal though), about the Yeovil v Stockport game.
I wasn't expecting much atmosphere or attendance, and my beliefs were confirmed near the end of the second half, when the attendance was announced. Just over 3500. Thats dismal, especially considering it only cost a pound to get in. The normal pre-match routine went by, and then we had a minutes silence. I find it amazing how after a minutes silence, everybody sings their heart out for the first 20 minutes of a game. After that, things got back to normal in huish park. Warne and Yeovil loan signing Noel-Williams both forced good saves from fon Williams, but there were no clear cut chances. You could say the game was 'end to end' but it wasn't. It was more 'open' than 'end to end', i.e. the ball didn't move very quickly up the pitch. But then disaster struck in the 43rd minute as Stockport took the lead. I myself didn't see the goal, as I was as far away as possible at the time, but it was inevitable I suppose. With Begovic returning to Porstmouth (?) we played Wagenaar in goal, and his lack of recent first team experience showed. The second half continued as the first half had finished, with neither side domnating. Then, in the 63rd minute, Terry Skiverton rose above a crowd of players to head in Yeovil's equalizer. We'd been pressing for a while so this goal was a just reward. Unfortunately, it didn't change the pace of the game, and it pottered on as before. With under 20 minutes to go though, I looked round to see Nathon Jones writhing on the floor clutching his face, and the referee brandishing a red to the Stockport striker. It soon became apparent that Jones had been elbowed in the face, and the referee had seen. Why he'd seen it I'm not sure, considering the ball was on the other side of the pitch, but none of the other Stockport players complained, and the manager just looked dissapointed. From then on, Stockport were playing for the draw, and the game dwindled down to an anticlimax. You'll beat us in the replay, but we'll have revenge in the league!!!
