Now, where is there a divergence between the Rand principles that Ryan is teaching his staff and the Satanic principles that the church teaches? Anton LeVay, the founder of the CoS said that he took 'Ayn Rand's philosophy' and added 'ceremony' to it. Paul Ryan said "I grew up reading Ayn Rand and it taught me quite a bit about who I am and what my value systems are, and what my beliefs are. It’s inspired me so much that it’s required reading in my office for all my interns and my staff."

I don't see a difference in their philosophy guys.

OH OH OH

Now that's where we're getting our lines mixed up. The Church of Satan doesn't actually worship the Devil, they're actually just a fringe group of Atheists. They just sort of,... worship themselves. Like, you only live once so do whatever makes you happy.

A. Why do Satanists worship The Devil?

We don’t. Satanists are atheists. We see the universe as being indifferent to us, and so all morals and values are subjective human constructions.

Our position is to be self-centered, with ourselves being the most important person (the “God”) of our subjective universe, so we are sometimes said to worship ourselves. Our current High Priest Gilmore calls this the step moving from being an atheist to being an “I-Theist.”

Satan to us is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential. We do not believe in Satan as a being or person.

http://www.churchofsatan.com/Pages/_FAQ03.html

E. What is “Theistic Satanism”?

There is no such thing. People who believe in some Devilish supernatural being and worship him are Devil-worshippers, not Satanists. Anton LaVey was the first to define Satanism as a philosophy, and it is an atheist perspective. “Theistic Satanism” is an oxymoronic term and thus absurd. In Satanism each individual is his or her own god—there is no room for any other god and that includes Satan, Lucifer, Cthulhu or whatever other name one might select or take from history or fiction.

Overall I think that they're an alright bunch of weirdos. =)

so you call people who actually worship satan "devil-worshipers"? ignoring the fact that "devil" is a generic term?

i don't understand why people would name their philosophy after something that they don't believe in

but i don't want to get bogged down in a debate over definitions... let's save that for symmetry's next post... i just think it's an illogical name

i will say though that it seems like satanism is somewhat accurate in describing how humans actually act.. whether it accurately describes how humans SHOULD act is a whole different question.

Well, to them Satan is like a symbol of liberation of thought and accepting that you are your own most important person.

Dude, you should totally contact the Church of Satan. :D
They have rules for action, like not harming kids, not fucking animals, not killing people usually, and other practical stuff like that.

I did a google of Ayn Rand on their site, and she pops up numerous times.
Church of Satan wrote:Members are encouraged to study pertinent writings which serve as guidelines for Satanic thought, such as works of Mark Twain, Niccolo Machiavelli, G.B. Shaw, Ayn Rand, Friedrich Nietzsche, etc.

Objectivism, the philosophy of Ayn Rand, is an acknowledged source for some of the Satanic philosophy as outlined in The Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey. Ayn Rand was a brilliant and insightful author and philosopher and her best-selling novels Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead continue to attract deserved attention for a new generation of readers. I am a strong admirer of Ayn Rand but I am an even stronger admirer of Anton LaVey for the vital differences between the philosophies of Objectivism and Satanism.

sorry, no can do. as anyone who has watched "the dark knight" knows, the only sensible way to live in this world is without rules. and christian church officials have broken at least two of those rules you mentioned. so it's obvious to me that christianity leads to a more sensible lifestyle than satanism... just saying...

Phatscotty this is not a thread on how to take care of trolls. This is a thread to discuss what Paul Ryan is about - Randism/Satanism.

Besides that, everybody already knows the best defense against trolls is a mother's milk, which is why Republicans are against abortion.

Curious, can you find any videos of conservatives approaching liberal presidential or vice presidential candidates in the same fashion?

Hey JB - try this out when you get a chance - Go up to some random couple pushing a stroller around. Ask the man questions regarding his job and be as ignorant and assholish as possible. See how long it takes until you get arrested or the guy punches you.

HEY I'm on your side. I posted it because it was on-topic. I've said that I like Ryan as a person just not as a politician.

patrickaa317 wrote:Curious, can you find any videos of conservatives approaching liberal presidential or vice presidential candidates in the same fashion?

If you're trying to say that Conservatives wouldn't dare do such a thing.... well I think that you're far and away off. They only just took the popular "Don't re-Nig - vote Romney" bumper stickers off of the market, and we've all seen the pictures of the Tea Partiers who hung a blood-covered effigy of Obama at a protest march. They said it wasn't racist, though I strongly question that.
There's also a professional Libertarian protest group called the Keene Organization, or something like that. They are the New Hampshire free-staters, and they drive around to different political conventions, town-halls, and meetings where their only goal is to f*ck sh*t up and be as annoying and loud as possible. They protest every party.
Basically, each party has it's fringe nutters because the parties are so big. Republicans have racists, Tea Partiers, and Paramilitary Survival groups while the Democrats have Anarchists, Socialists, and crazy moon-tea hippy people

True, but just celebrating Stanic values is itself disconcerting. It not like saying atheists can be good people , which is true. While Satanists will say Christians highly distort their ideas, it still is a set of ideas that pretty well goes against what most people consider to be good values.

Note -- I am not specifically weighing in about Ryan on that, just saying that while I am not concerned about someone saying they are not Christian (not saying Ryan has), atheist or whatever, I AM more concerned about anyone saying they agree with Satanic principles, more than any other religious belief. In ANY case, though, I would need to look further. I want to see what they mean by that, not just look at the title.

So when those conservatives act that intolerant to liberals, do you see conservatives posting it in forums talking about how the candidate got owned as if it was some sort of proud moment for the ideologue?

Also, you forgot to mention racists under Democrats as well, they are on both sides of the aisle. I can post examples if you don't believe me.

Thought so.
I posted that video under the headline of Paul Ryan being harassed. Then everyone attacks me for gleefully reveling in his ruined parade. You guys are embarrassing. I said that he was being harassed, and posted it because it was relevant. I never once said anything about him being owned or acted as though it was a proud moment for any ideologue. Those people interrupting that parade are semi-retarded. Ya'll are just terrible readers trying to put people into categories. This wasn't created as an attack Paul Ryan thread.
