OFCOURSE! I'm gonna let you just f*ck the environment up because you want a bunch of polluting cars!

The debate on the farce that is man-made global warming is for another thread.

Actually I wasn't even talking about global warming. (Though it's very real, and humans are very probable speeding it up.)

You can not deny we're polluting the environment. To do that is just ignorant and shows you only care about your luxury. Car-emissions are bad for your health and bad for the environment, and those big-ass hummers and trucks just emit more.

Global warming is not cool. baha my attempt at trying to be humorous. It never quite works out for me.

I think that the europeons appreciate a good car. And really why do you need to be driving around an environment polluting truck that you really have no practical use for. If you live on a farm and need to haul stuff around then that makes sense but to just drive a huge extended cab truck because you think it will make you look cool or something is just stupid in my opinion. If i could i would drive around on a vespa all year long. That would save me a bundle on gas. My car isn't bad on gas but it could be a hell of a lot better.

Like my dad always says "the bigger the truck the littler the man."

It's not a question of need.
If someone wants to buy a large vehicle, then so be it.They have every right to do so.

I know I'm gonna sound a bit communist here, but why are his wants more important than the environment?

My suggestion is taxing those cars more, so that anyone who wants one can have one but just has to pay extra.

All vehicles are required to adhere to emission standards, whatever the size.
These vehicles typically cost more, therefore more taxes are payed on them.

i mean i can understand in a lot of ways why someone might be benefited by having a larger vehicle, especially trucks. You can use them for a ton of things, and they sure come in handy for anyone who actually needs to move stuff around. Still, when you are buying them...just because you want one, and not because of utility, shouldnt there be a point of common sense that kind of cuts things off at somepoint? Certainly im not claiming that you have to justify your purchases, but the whole argument that i want to do something which can have a pretty negative affect on the environment, just because i think its cool, has always sounded a bit infantile to me.

I know that. I live in a hick town where you can't look left or right without seeing a ford or chevy pickup. Kids that only drive themselves around come to school in huge pickups. They are ignorant to the fact they are destroying the planet that they and someday their children have to live on. It's not okay for those people to harm the planet because they are not the only ones who have to live on the planet. It's like saying i don't want to live in my house anymore but i'm going to demolish it even though the rest of my family are going to be homeless.

Death to Hummer limosines. They are the paragon of all that's wrong with this world, and simultaneously the creator of many new problems for this world. Everytime I see one in Winnipeg, I scream.

Like a bus, I assume. I does'nt have to watch for curbs, or pedestrians though, so maybe it doesn't matter.

By that logic if I want to detonate thermonuclear warheads in urban areas, I have every right to do so...

There comes a point where an individual's wants are eclipsed by the society's needs. Civilization is rather based around that idea. You might want to go out and murder people by the truckload, but this wouldn't be good for society, so you're not allowed to do it.

Even if you deny the probable reality of human-assisted climate change, you can't deny that sucking on the tailpipe of one of those things isn't good for you. Spraying various toxic chemicals and super-fine dusts with wild abandon really isn't good for anyone.

Obviously people's rights should never by eclipsed by the needs of a society, but the ownership of an excessively large truck was never a right, was it?

Dierks Bentley - Cab Of My Truck

Cracked windshield
Crumpled up cans and a beat up bag of red man chew
Fix a flat, jonny cash box set
Half a dozen parking ickets that I aint paid yet
Litten on that long bed seat
I got my shot gun girl right next to me

[CHORUS:]
Four wheel turnin
Two hearts burnin
We go runnin wild
Gonna make a million
Memories for every hundred
Thousand miles
Learnin everything I'll ever need
To know about life and love
In the cab of my truck

Sliden rear
Back window
So it's an easy reach to where my cooler keeps em iced down cold
Roll of duck tape, W D 40
Ain't nothin too loose or licked too tight for a man like me
Yeah, I might take it slow
30 through town
On a back dirt road
Girl I put the hammer down

[CHORUS]

Down by the river, two bodies in the glow of the radio dial
Gonna make a million memories for every hundred thousand miles
I'm learnin everything we'll ever need to know about life and love
In the cab of my truck
In the cab of my truck

Man I can't find anything in this truck
Oh, what's this? a little white tank top
Get out of my way Cadilac, big white's comin through

What was I thinking? - Dierks Bentley

Becky was a beauty from South Alabama
Her Daddy had a hard lock and nine pound hammer
Think He even did a little time in the slammer
What was I thinking?
She snuck out one night and met me by the front gate
Her daddy came out waving that twelve gage
We tore out the drive, he peppered my tailgate
What was I thinking?

Oh I knew there'd be Hell to pay,
But that crossed my mind a little too late!

Chorus
Cuz' I was thinking about a little white tank top sitting right there in the middle by me
I was thinking about a long kiss, man just gotta get goin' with a night like me
Well I know what I was feeling But What was I thinking?
But What was I thinking?

What was I thinking?

By the county line the cops were nipping on our heels
Pulled off the road kicked it to 4 wheel
Shut off the lights, tore through a corn field
What was I thinking?
Out the other side she was hollerin' a Faster!
Took the third road had the radio blastin'
Hit the Honky Tonk for a little close dancin'
What was I thinking?

Oh I knew there'd be Hell to pay,
But that crossed my mind a little too late!

Chorus

When a mountain of a man with a Born to Kill tattoo
tried to cut in I knocked out his front tooth
Ran outside hood sliding like Beau duke
What was I thinking?
I finally got her home half past too late
Her daddy's in a lawn chair sittin' in the driveway
Put it in park as he started my way,
What was I thinking?

Oh What was I thinking?
Oh What was I thinking?

And she gave a come and get me grin,
And like a bullet we were gone again!

Chorus

What was I thinking?

That's why we have laws. You can't murder, you can't detonate a nuclear warhead, and you can't dump garbage or shit on the sidewalk.
But you are allowed to buy the vehicle of your choosing.

No, its not a right. Just like you (and others here) don't have the right to tell someone they cannot purchase a legal product.
