A warning, sir:
This thread is tricky. You start off knowing you are right, arguing well, making strong points rooted in science and rationality, and then you come up against closed-minded nonsense, tinfoil hat weirdness and the old questions like "Well how come there are no half-fish-half-monkeys then?" and you start to wonder why you are still bothering, and then you cry softly to yourself and vow never to post in here again.

The thread's to big me to catch up with - but I can already guess who's on both sides :)

I dont want to read 100+ pages of moronictudyness (yes, I know that isnt a word. It just popped into my head) posted here, I want to ask this question: Does anyone else take the middle ground on this issue?

Interesting point. But I'm not sure exactly what you mean - on evolution vs creationism? or the original thread title?

Edit: actually, can there be a middle ground? Is it possible?

Both. I am a Christian who believes in evolution and has a very loose interpretation of the Bible. I don't know why everyone thinks there are only two ways to side on this.

P.S. Even if he doesn't technically exist, God still exists. More than half of the Worlds Population believes in the God of Abraham, so even if not really present, he still has more influence than any person in World history

Postby WL_southerner on Thu Feb 15, 2007 8:18 am

if you put water in a bottle and seal it put it in the sun light and leave it what happens you get a simple form of life a green slim
do that make you god no it just a act of nature
only reason so many people belive in some form of god is because they been brain wash. think about it before you say any thing. ok thats long enough thinking. people who belive in god most of them 99% thats is had it drum into them from the day they was born. having to go to very sunday ect. why not leave the kids at home and let them make there own choice what they belive in when there 16-21. bet it would end up most of the world not beliving.

jar + water = green slime

Cool, now what about when there is no jar or water? Or are you saying water has always existed? Or the sun has always existed?

A few certainties:

Life is produced from that which is living.

Matter can neither be created nor destroyed.

Something with the ability to create has always existed.

I know you think that evolution involves rocks giving birth to fish, or something like that, but it really doesn't, jay. Please, we have had this argument so many times... please go back and read any answer anyone has given you about this.

Matter can neither be created nor destroyed.

wait, what?

Something with the ability to create has always existed.

Even though matter cannot be created?

But how does this prove god exists? In the same way that you can make a cake from raw materials, you can take Amino Acids which are found in comets and create, from phosphorus and a few other materials, life. This life would be a virus-like thing because it has a protein coat. I don't want to go into the history of life, and I certainly don't want to have to repeat over and over again as many have in this thread.

Matter cannot be made or destroyed. So?

Something with the ability to create does not always have to have existed. I don't know what you mean by this so that's all I'll say.

The problem with the prime mover argument (matter cannot come from matter, things must create other things...) is that we must disregard the concept of infinity in favour of... what... an infinite God???

No-body will go as far as to say that there are not some infinite things (time & space for one, God for theists...)

SO why can't the universe have simply existed eternally, always causing and creating without the need for an original creator?

I always use to look forward to reading the many amusing and deranged posts in this thread, it always made my visit to the normally chaotic and stupid Off Topic area quite enjoyable.

Science also dictates evolution could never have happened (but lets save that for a later thread).

Go for it. This topics 130 pages, seems a shame to start another.
