The choice "why not" accurately describes my views on gay marriage.

That being said, if civil unions resulted in the same benefits as marriage, apart from calling such unions "marriage," what would the downside be?

Yup. That's not marriage.

That's exactly like saying that black people can marry white people, just not get it recognized by the state. You are being deliberately obtuse. At least have the balls to say out loud that you don't want gay people to marry.

Maybe I didn't explain myself well enough.

If homosexuals in a civil union received all of the same benefits as heterosexuals in a marriage, what would be the problem?

Actually, it's nothing like that. What it is exactly like saying is: "Men can marry men and women can marry women, just not get it recognized by the state."

I think I've been pretty clear where I stand on this issue.

Yes... good, we have an understanding.

My question - is that a problem for anyone (homosexuals or anti-gay marriage peeps)?

Sorry that you are so dumb. My point, and it was clear to everyone else, is that your definition of marriage is not marriage. Marriage not recognized by the state is not marriage.

No, you have tried to be very vague and dishonest. I know you are scared of gay people, but honestly they aren't going to hurt you if you just come right out and say that you don't want them to marry. You're allowed to be a bigot.

Gays receiving the same benefits.

Why is that a downside? Who is it a downside for?

Hap's hates TEH GAYS without any good reason. (Aside from attempting to deny his true feelings by hating it so much.)

"Will you civil union me?", or "Will you be my domestic partner" or "Will you register with me" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "will you marry me", don't you agree? Marriage may only be a word after civil unions allow homosexuals the same benefits, but it is a powerful word.

I dug it up from somewhere in the internet underworld awhile back and posted it in a thread similar to this one when people started talking about beastiality.

Now it's here, and a good revival at that.
