I'm not aware that non Americans comment on politics because I don't read the threads.
There are just so many of them that all other titles get swamped. At least with the football thread, we non Americans create just 1 thread and add to that. We're not so self obsessed that we feel we need to create a thread for each season, team or club competition.

As a Brit who regularly posts in threads on US politics, I can't say that my opinions are particularly welcome. You yourself have made comments that I should post about British topics rather than US topics in the past. It seems a little strange to pretend that all opinions are welcome on US politics. Some, especially from non-US posters, especially when giving examples outside of the US, are downright unwelcome and treated with defensive hostility.

As a second point, many American posters treat all political issues as American political issues anwyay, so Pedro has a fair point that politics might well be fairly divided off.

Finally, in Pedro's defence, the C-word is much less offensive in the UK than it is in the US.

Having a fit when a lunatic shows up to a "Tea Party" rally carrying a handgun, for instance, is a little humorous coming from someone sitting in a country engulfed in a 40 year old civil war where ambushes and car bombings are facts of life, with a dozen different militias having arms dumps around the country, the police being accused of conducting street executions, in a country where thousands of organized Nazis regularly storm through villages rounding-up minorities and in which the entire nation erupts into weeks of civil unrest every summer like clockwork.

I understand that the mindset of Britons is that Ulster is a "freebie" and "doesn't count", EDL attacks are "media hype and happens in all countries!" and Britain is just going through some growing pains which result in the summer riots, but most Americans (or anyone else) don't get any of that - it comes across as super-bizarre ... like a man with two broken limbs and an eviscerated abdomen lecturing someone with a bandaid on his finger to be more careful. Not a legitimate effort at discussion but a sad realization that things are so on the brink of collapse that the best one can hope to do is look abroad.

You'll notice that no one has an issue when the Canadians here comment. Nor has there been an issue with me commenting on USA politics. Just you.
