I don't at all believe that PLAYER believes China is pushing that stuff. I could be wrong, I suppose...but just the way she worded it following my statement leads me to believe she was also being sarcastic.

Actually, China is leading the world in Green technology right now. They produce a lot of wind technology, solar panels, etc... and they use them at home, not just for export.

Partly, they have the advantage that the US enjoyed in previous decades over Europe. the western US over eastern US .. we had little prior infrastructure, so could start from scratch with the new stuff. Partly, China is a command economy and so can dictate.

Now, they still use a lot of dirty technology and absolutely allow worker abuse.... but they also do lead in green technology. They push green because they fully understand that it is the future. They don't want to be lectured to by the west on it, but in some ways, its sort of a political play. By arguing against green, while investing in it heavily, they sort of divert attention, make the US fight China instead of fighting for green technology more here.
