I. How old is the earth? around 4,6 billion years old
2. How old is the universe? current calculations say around 13,7 billion years (assuming the universe has always expanded since the big bang)
3. How old is humanity? The first members of our specie, the homo sapiens originated around 200 000 years ago in mesopotamia.
4. Were there ever dinosaurs? of course...
5. If "yes" to 4, have they all gone and when? The most common theory is that a giant meteorite crashed on the earth creating a huge dust coat in the athmosphere during years, leading to massive hecatombs and extinction of all the huge and unadapted creatures.
6. Who built the pyramids? Highly qualified workers treated way better than we are tought under the orders of pure architect geniuses.
7. Is or was the Radio Church of God a reliable source of information? Don't know that radio
8. Will there be a rapture? no
9. Are these the last days? This will come up to an end someday for sure, but we can safely say that our planet will outlive our specie.
10. Are there really angels? why would there be angels?
11. Are there really aliens? what are the odds that in the entire universe no other planet has what it takes to develop lifeforms?
12. What is the relationship between angels and aliens? i guess a pretty kinky one
13. Is Satan real? hell no

Dude, you realize that this is just the sort of thing Jonesy is looking to avoid?
Your "thoughts" on the subject are NOTHING NEW. You don't appear smarter, you don't appear cooler, you're just acting like a parrot. I don't think you realize how ignorant you come off in your intolerance of anyone who has a different viewpoint than yourself. That's the major downfall of many who hold your belief system.

first off, this thread was created for this type of comment, where everyone is allowed to speak their thoughts.Just stay in jonesy's thread for lalaland. I certainly appear smarter than an idiot who could seriously think the earth is 6000 years old. This is not even questionable. Let's create threads about 1+1=3 and call intollerant people who think it's stupid.

Let's face it, you said yourself you don't even care how old the earth is, therefore you don't have a very curious mind. Why are you commenting a subject you don t even care of?

Dismissing 300 years of modern science and therefore most of the advances of the enlightenment and humanitarian revolution can only be classfied as a "different viewpoint" in the same vein as a schizophreniac might have a "different viewpoint" of reality.

Once the innevitable conclusion that some of these people will never change their viewpoint is made(indeed some of them loudly proclaim their fundamentalism as a virtue), then the only reasonable recourse is to make sure that third parties see their craziness for what it is. So yes, mocking the crazies is nothing new, but it is also necessary.

Thank all non-existant deities that we're already at the point where, in civilized society, the admittance to being , say, a scientologist or a religious fundamentalist means everyone else is quietly re-evaluating their estimate of your intelligence, guilability and perhaps sanity.

I'm glad there's people more intelligent than I, that know why the thread was created since it couldn't just be created so everyone could answer the questions.

Lol, this is just why the other thread is cool and this one bogus: It's doomed to become a circle jerk. I honestly am baffled to what you all get of this? Ego boost? Relief to know you all have your own thread to bash in since you can't stand the fact that others have a conflicting view to your own "superior" one? I think it's time that all of you who have been emotionally damaged(poor little guys) by the big bad church should put on your big-boy pants and move on with your lives. Drop the monkey off your back, you'll feel much better.

It's already well known what the majority of people on here feel about creation vs. evolution since they spout off about it every chance they get. It's just old, tired hat.

I've made this similar point before without much success. My point is generally "live and let live" (and I tend not to participate in those religious threads). The counter to that is that most atheists will contend that religion is a large factor in their daily lives, even though they would not like it to be (e.g. Ten commandments on courthouses, Christmas songs in public schools, daily prayers) or that religion gets in the way of science (e.g., stem cell research).

So, my advice to you, if you don't want to engage them is to not engage them.

I know full well no one deserves it more than me but I'm still annoyed that Symmetry managed to ruin it by bringing in his self serving questions.

I just wanted a thread where anyone that felt like it could answer the questions without being labeled as anything. I found them mildly interesting and wanted to see what others thoughts were on a few.

For example AAfitz left a response that I agree with that made me wish I had put an element of what he said in my answer.

That's cool, 2dimes. I never got the impression that you were they type to inordinately relish ridiculing another person's belief system. This thread could be educational if people would resist the urge to inject their foul smelling hang-ups. However, I don't have the energy to sift through the vileness for the enriching bits that I can find on google anyway so I bid you all adieu. ;)
