I'm taking it again this year, because I'm poor and need a scholarship to pay for college, and I got that last year, and with bad grades I need a REALLY good ACT to compensate.

I can tell you what my teachers have told me, the ACT is usually the last thing that colleges look at. You should apply for financial aid (as much as possible), you'll probably get more need-based money there than you will from a merit-based scholarship.

Also look around for government scholarships and other little ones... one site I'm going to be using a lot is http://www.collegeboard.com... anyone can get huge scholarships it just depends how hard you look

If it was based on tests and purely that it'd be 4.0, and that's without your lame weighted system(i didn't take the AP because there was more homework though I was in honors).

My act is 31 though.

So your basically saying your my academic twin?

I ended high school with about a 3.2ish GPA and I had a 30 on my ACT

Not true. I got into one of the better schools in my State with crappy grades (relatively) since I had good ACT and SAT (1980) scores. Other things factored in like I was the vice prez of my grade but I have the suspicion that teachers and guidance counselors only say that to make sure students don't slack off their last two years.

I disagree rather strongly. The average ACT (or SAT) of incoming students in one of the factors in rankings, something that many schools care very much about. At many schools they just throw your application to the side if you don't have a minimum standard on the ACT (or SAT) and GPA.

What I recommend to Kyle (and all of you) is this: TAKE THE SAT, unless you want to stay close to home and go to the local state college. With the SAT you're better equipped to apply to Liberal Arts Colleges which will give you a better and more prestigious education than most large universities that you'd be able to get into with the same grades and standardized test scores. Especially if you're from a small state (like Idaho), you become very desirable to these private schools who want to have geographic diversity (the opposite of state schools). Even though they're much more expensive, if you actually do have financial need they're also much more willing to give you huge scholarships, so you could end up graduating with less debt than from a less-expensive university where they just throw loans at you.

Not really. I guess you just need a good portfolio, rather than the SAT for most art colleges.

You did well on the ACT. Why the aversion to standardized tests?
