Kind of figured for Australia, that's why I didn't ask. And forgive my Aussie slang ignorance, but is a bogan similar to the outskirts of a town or the like?
Someone who lives in the country and is a complete moron. Who doesn't know anything about anything. Because of them all the national standartized tests are sinchy.

Seems like Bogan is different to where you live.

In 24 and a half years I recall seeing only one pickup, and that one wasn't much larger than your average (scandinavian average, Volvo-like) car for a family. Other than that... nope. If you need to transport anything too large to fit into the car you either have a trailer (not the kind you live in!) or know someone who has one, or know someone who knows someone. Or you can rent one if you don't know very many people.

And @ Snowpepsi: Seriously, sell 6 of of those vehicles and buy a bicycle for everyone instead. Does that 17 year old son you mentioned really have 4 cars of his own, or is there more than one 17 yo son?

Nope not too many. The people that do are either farmers or surfers. People do drive four by fours (Land Rovers etc.) and, especially in the city, they get a lot of shit for it (rightfully). We call them Chelsea Tractors (Chelsea being an area of London). Most people don't see why the hell you'd need such a vehicle in the environment that most of us live in.

in europe we usually don't have the room to park those huge cars, so no, we don't have very much big cars in europe (sure there must be a few but they are very rare here)

besides, in holland you have to pay a lot extra taxes (and like you don't pay enough taxes already in holland) to drive such cars

So, too you guys saying that pick-up are all huge monsters, they actually come in several sizes. Some of the smaller ones are only a bit longer then a car, and quite a few actually do get decent mileage.

As for Kid_A, out here where I live, you'll find about as many pick-ups as cars, and that's because of the extreme enviroment that we live in. Not to mention they come in handy when moving to a new apartment, transporting tools, lawn mowers, etc. Just because someone owns one, doesn't automatically make them white trash (unless your calling me whit trash then).

I kinda agree with Kid_A.

Muy thaiguy, you live in an area of the country (like the one I grew up in) where having a pick-up is just incredibly, incredibly common, and even people who aren't necessarily "trashy" by local standards have them. However, by national and international standards, even the most cultivated residents of the sticks are hicks.

So, by your logic and Kid_A's, just because someone owns a truck, they are automatically a hick? I'm sorry, but little street cars that people in other areas own just don't cut it when the roads have a layer of ice, and then a layer of snow. Not to mention those dinky little cars wouldn't be able to get out of snow-filled trenches in the dead of winter. We drive trucks out of necessity, cars are good for when the weather is nice, but that doesn't happen very often, just ask anyone in the freakin' region of the entire Western States.

I live in one of the most rural counties and even here pickups are extremely rare. In Britain they serve very little purpouse. Most farmers buy landrover type things and no-one else really needs one.

However, as I live on the coastal strip, there are always a few chavs who think its a good idea. Those bloody things are always spotless (proberbly never been off road) and most of the time never come out of the drive. When they do however, its fun to watch them try to navigate narrow roads with tight bends and barely enough space for two normal cars to pass

Edit: Thinking about it, what do pickups actually do? they seem to be just landrovers with no option for passengers and no bloody roof.

I've driven a wee little V-4 in every region of the United States, except Alaska and Hawaii, in every season.

Your ideas (and my ideas) about transportation necessities are strongly influenced by our cultural formations.

Exactly why most of europe doesn't drive one. We don't need em.

What do you consider the sticks?

I probably have a very low standard, from the bayou (perhaps more technically termed the boondocks) to the Green Mountains of Vermont up to and including the suburbs of most Midwestern and Southern cities.

It's kind of like the Supreme Court's definition of porn. The sticks? You know it when you see it.
