actually, the internet is NOT the press... and will soon be less than free unless legislation is updated.
But, freedom is not so much about a few people being able to voice opinions. Freedom is about the FEW being able to freely express radical ideas that are unpopular, particularly that are unpopular with the government.
By THAT standard, we have been losing ground ever since Bush came into office. And as for security ... my grandparents lived through, fought in WWII. My grandmother would call some of the radical protestors of the 60's and 70's "traitors" ... but even she took exception and feared the consequences of what was implemented by the Bush administration.
