Yes, Dances with Wolves was a great movie. Though I have to say I thought a few parts especially towards the beginning were a bit drawn out. I do have to hand it to Costner, he did a good job, both on the screen and directing. it's really a pity though. Sometimes Costner gets a great part and he's able to do a superb job with it and other times he gets an average or bad part and he just doesn't seem to even try.

I'm saying nothing about "Robin Hood". Or "Waterworld".

Except that sometimes, a cinema is a good place for a sound sleep.

I just want to know, what was the point of making Wyatt Earp? Didn't we already have Tombstone?

I think it was bad timing - these things take ages to make. After all, Costner's Robin Hood was released almost at the same time as the (far better!) version with Patrick Bergen (? - may have got that name wrong).

I haven't seen "Wyatt Earp", though I'd like to at some point. I did enjoy "Tombstone" greatly.

There was a Wyatt Earp comic, which I got a very promising issue one of about four years ago, that I don't believe ever made it to issue two.

Oh, and on the subject of Robin Hood, wtf is that BBC pile of cowpat that's on the TV now? I was anticipating this eagerly, then moved to the US just as it was about to hit the TV in the UK. I had to wait about another six months to discover what a pile of poo it was.

And it's getting worse - I haven't seen a whole episode since about episode two, but the glimpses I get every now and then are appalling - plots from Power Rangers, wardrobe from Kmart !!

Have no clue. Never lived in the UK and I'm really not a big Robin Hood fan.

It means, possibly you wouldn't want people looking over your shoulder and see you looking at this (specifically Not Safe For Work) - there's little to stop us posting anything, so there could be swearing, inappropriate piccies (until their withdrawn), or whatever.

Basically it got the name because of an early pic that was on a page that I will not mention but is well known to most who have been here for more than a few months.

That's probably because the topic is in an almost constant state of flux. We could be on 1 subject one minute and another the next. In the good old days we could even have up to 4 conversations occuring simultaneously.

Then keep posting and make interesting conversation along with it. Give the posts some zest. Make people respond.

Yeah, I think that posting in this thread just for the sake of posting (or in that other one), just to get the page count up, is counter-productive.

The people who come here to read the posts don't come here to read "bump", or "I'm bored", or "this thread is a piece of cotton" (might have got that one wrong).

They come because, hopefully, they want to see what people have to say, and it's not about people shouting at each other about politics, religion, abortion, healthcare, or whatever. Personally, I'd be happy if people never mentions football (either type) either, but that's my personal take. My eyes just glaze over when I start to read about goal averages, or which player did what, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Oh, sorry, dozed off for a moment there.

My son made me quite proud the other day. I'd just been reading something by some psuedo-intellectual who was talking about Proust and his sodding cake dipped in his cuppa, which led him to write A la Rechereche du Temps Perdu, the world's fifth longest novel. (Don't these people have any memories of their own they'd like to talk about?).

Now, my wife had just returned from a business trip, which included at the end a quick visit to the UK. She'd brought the kids back some Prawn Cocktail crisps, which they love and miss (and always call "Prawn & Cocktail")

The boy said to me "You know, Dad, eating those Prawn and Cocktail crisps made me remember all sorts of things, because we used to have them in England. Do you remember when we were sitting in the Horseshoe and there was a blizzard outside, and we had the last bag of Prawn & Cocktail, so she(pointing) had to have Cream Cheese and Onion?"

Move over, Proust.

jonesthecurl wrote:But for me, the funniest line ever (maybe I just like obvious jokes) was in Blackadder -

"This is a very sticky moment.

In fact it's the stickiest moment since Sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun..."

"Why indeed sir, your very posture tells me 'Here is a man of true greatness'."
"Either that or 'Here are my genitals. Please kick them'."

"Right Baldrick, where's the manuscript?"
-"You mean the big papery thing tied up with string?"
"Yes Baldrick, the manuscript, belonging to Doctor Johnson."
-"You mean the baity fellow in the black coat who's just left?"
"Yes Baldrick, Dr Johnson."
-"So you're asking where the big papery thing tied up with string belonging to the baity fellow in the black coat who just left is?"
"Yes Baldrick I am, and if you don't answer, then the booted bony thing with five toes at the end of my leg will soon connect sharply with the soft, dangly collection of objects in your trousers. Now for the last time, Baldrick, where is Dr. Johnson's manuscript?"
-"On the fire."
"On the fire?!"
-"The hot, orangy thing under the stony, mantelpiecey thing."

And possibly my favourite...
"We are going to Mrs. Miggins' Coffee Shop, we are going to find out where Dr. Johnson keeps a copy of his dictionary, and YOU are going to steal it."
-"Me?"
"Yes, you."
-"But why me?"
"Because you burnt it Baldrick."
-"But then I'll go to hell forever for stealing."
"Baldrick, believe me, eternity in the company of Beelzebub, and all his hellish instruments of death, will be a picnic, compared to five minutes with me, and this pencil, if we can't replace this dictionary."

I shouldn't know all these so well.

But, back to 2001 (the film that is not the year)

This has to be seen on a big screen. It does not work at all on a TV.

With the possible exception of Rocky Horror, this is the only film I've seen more than 10 times in a cinema. It is abso-effin-lutely awesome.

But no, it doesn't work at home at all.

Some films do, some don't.

e.g. - I seem to have missed the possibility of seeing the new Narnia film in the cinema now, but I don't think I'll bother with a home version. I saw the first one in Croydon, and loved it. Shortly thereafter I saw it on a plane and was vastly disappointed.

Incidentally I have a door in my house which opens onto a blank wall. When I get a bit of time, I'm either going to paint a picture of Narnia in there, or the World of Tiers.
