Well now that Sam Bradford has won the Heisman... with recent bowl trends
does that give Florida a leg up on capturing another National Title?

Personally I would have already given Florida a leg up. As for heisman. I would have given it to McCoy. Bradford had a better season but I think that McCoy did more for his team, which is what I thought the Heisman was about anyways.

Big day in Atlanta. Pulled off a major victory in OT and last time I checked (which was recently), Giants were getting crushed by Cowboys. Disappointing finish for Packers. Jets pulled off a late victory after giving up the lead. And the Lions almost ruined their not so perfect season.

My apologies about the Cowboys game. I thought the score said 24-3 when it was actually 14-8. Anyways, congratz to the Cowboys.

I find it hard to see much seperation in the quality of play and leadership that McCoy, Tebow, Bradford and Harrell have all contributed to their teams. McCoy's no quit attitude while leading Texas back to take their only lead over Texas Tech with just over a minute left to play --after a disaster of a first half-- might have influenced my choice. If that interception had occurred to ice the game and save an unblemished record --and Big 12 Championship-- the award would likely have been his easily. Funny thing that a defender blowing what looked like an easy play, might have been a deciding factor.

I suppose being in the driver's seat of one of the most productive offenses to ever play college football is what made the difference. Bradford eeked it out, but ALL the contenders have had absolutely amazing seasons and now I'm really looking forward to January.

. . . . .

COWBOYS! 3 TDs... 8 Sacks... 2 INTs... and NO Giants' TDs... PRICELESS! WOOT!

In other news, it looks like Auburn is looking to put someone's school program in the grave, namely their own. This hiring decision was horrendous.

It was a close match between them but I think if you look at it from the point of view of who was the most important for their team, I would have to go with McCoy. I think Florida could have gotten it done without Tebow and I think Oklahoma could have gotten it done without Bradford as well, Texas Tech is a bit harder to say but I don't think that Texas would be anywhere near where it is today without McCoy. However if you are thinking in the logic of who had the best stats than they obviously made the right decision.

Falcons are going to the playoffs

Postby Quirk on Mon Dec 22, 2008 12:02 am

:D With the win today against the Vikings the Falcons are going to the playoffs. After only winning 4 games last year we are 10-5 with one more game to play in the regular season. Nobody expected such a young team to do this well.

If we win next week and Carolina loses, does that mean the Falcons win the South? I can't remember.

Though at the same time. It was a poorly played game. Atlanta had plenty of opportunities where they could have blown the game wide open but came up empty. In the end the biggest difference I could see between the two teams is that one tried to lose and the other suceeded.

Yup... the Falcons can still win the NFC South.

It wasn't that long ago that a rookie QB led Pittsburgh to a Super Bowl win and you gotta love the way the Falcons have played all year... they've earned it. They're still a hot team and I like their chances of going deep into the playoffs.
_ _ _ _ _

As far as Auburn's questionable choice for head coach... Pete Carroll had a tough go in the NFL and some folks have forgotten how bummed (and outspoken) USC alumni and fans were when he was given the reigns of the Trojans. So maybe a bit of adversity is a good thing... if the already strong programs at Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss isn't enough incentive already.

There's a difference between having a hard time in the pros and having a hard time in college football. The pros are supposed to be tougher because that is where the toughest players from college end up and are coached by the best coaches in the country. I would take a coach with a 3-21 record in the pros over a guy with a 5-19 record in college, especially since you got rid of a proven coach to get him.

Also, I thought it was Roethlisberger's second season when they won the Super Bowl or are you talking about a different year with a different qb?

I also like the Falcons' chances at winning at least one round of the playoffs maybe even making it to the Super Bowl. Despite the sub-par performance today, I think that Atlanta has an even better team than their record suggests and I look forward to them getting the opportunity to prove it in the playoffs.

Actually I was thinking of Big Ben... and you're right, he came into the NFL in 2004
and helped the Steelers to a winning season... but the Super Bowl win came later.

Yeah, I remember they had a great season when he was a rookie but I believe lost in the AFC Championship to the Patriots. After his super bowl win though he kind of went through a rough spell. This is really his first season where he's looked anything like the guy who they had the first two seasons.

Yup, Rothlisberger had that dumb motorcycle accident after the Super Bowl Season,
but seems to be back to business as usual now.

Atlanta wins the NFC South if they beat St. Louis and New Orleans beats Carolina.

AND SPEAKING OF TURNAROUND SEASONS...
If the DOLPHINS beat the Jets they are the AFC East Champions
and if the Ravens beat the Jags... New England is done.

In that case, GO RAVENS! Not sure how to feel about Jets-Dolphins.

I think that the Pats are gonna pull off the playoff spot, as usual. With the Jets' loss to Seattle, they are pretty well screwed. As I understand it, if Jets win but Pats win too, Pats get the division, right?

Who do you guys think will get AFC West, San Diego or Denver? I hope Denver, but Denver likes to choke whenever I want them to win, which isn't often

IF... The Patriots had a "win and you're in" scenario they would be a lock,
but it's out of their hands and I expect the Dolphins and Ravens both to
take care of business. Nobody wants to face the Pats in the playoffs and
both of these AFC contenders want it bad.

I also give the edge to the Chargers playing at home for the division title,
they've been on the bubble for weeks and finally control their own fate
and will be ready to rock the Broncos.

The Dolphins and the Ravens both have to win to eliminate the Patriots,
that is if the Pats beat Bills. >All playoff scenarios here <

Hard to believe Miami was 1-15 last season and if Atlanta wins the NFC South
they will have a first round bye.

Carolina and Philadelphia both lost games by about a foot or so today.

I know. I think that they should modify it and use it with today's unis. That would be awesome I think.

Thanks oVo for all the great info on the playoff scenario.

Here's a question for someone from Seattle: I was browsing through NFL jerseys yesterday and I saw a green Seahawks jersey. I did not say authentic or replica, but it did say "Premier". Any idea if this is real, cuz I really want one now.

As far as the Dolphins go, I think they deserve to have the coach of the year. The only thing that could change my opinion on this is if Atlanta wins the Super Bowl. As far as division titles, I can't shake the feeling that Atlanta will be able to overtake the Panthers. I think the Dolphins will secure their place atop the AFC East. Chargers-Broncos is kind of a toss up to me but I'll gie the Chargers the edge as they are the hotter team right now. No comment on the NFC North. As far as wild card, I think the Cowboys will eliminate themselves allowing for the Buccaneers to take the second wild card spot in the NFC.

Gotta give Mike Smith the Coach of the Year, imo, especially if ATL wins their division. but, for some reason im really liking Tampa Bay's chances in the playoffs, assuming they get there.
