There needed to be some explanation of why the Terminus folks imprisoned Maggie and her team (as opposed to what's going to happen - a flashback next season). Additionally, I'm willing to bet the Terminus problem is going to end up being a "misunderstanding." Which will also piss me off.
So, I guess in sum, I was good with this season, but I'm not happy where next season is going to go.
Cannibal cultists. Here's what I think happened with the "never trust" signs. Way back when Terminus was like the prison. It was a legitimate place of sanctuary where people could come and survive the zombies. However, after a while, they ran into a group similar to Woodbury or the one that Daryl was running with who came in under pretense of peace and then proceeded to attack them and take their resources. Maybe this only happened once and they lost so many people that they kind of snapped or maybe it kept happening and they were losing too much to the false groups and turned bitter. The point is that at some point, Terminus went from being a place of refuge to a trap. The food itself was likely human but was probably also drugged (which is how they got Glenn and Maggie's group).
I was disappointed in this season, the pacing was bad, the character development often felt sketchy and cliche and there were really only maybe 4 good episodes. I could have lived with that because the three episodes that led up to the finale were great but this one was just bad. There was too much left unseen, we still don't know what's going on with Beth (and it irks me that they didn't even try to look for her), the ending of the group that Daryl was with was anti-climactic and the season ended on a weird note. Also, where are Carol and Tyreese (I guess maybe they might be very close and even noticed what happened)? It seemed like they were ahead of everyone for a while and I don't think they spent that many days at that house. In short, after all that slow pacing that happened throughout the season, it felt like they ran out of time to actually resolve many of the season's issues and just chose to try to quickly resolve the Daryl and Rick story lines at the end.
Also eating humans is unhealthy. Eating your own species is usually unhealthy which is part of the reason why cannibalism gets selected against in nature. Basically, it's not about what bacteria, fungi or viruses that the body may carry, it's about the proteins. Proteins are broken down and put back together by the body very specifically. Some of the proteins that are found in the human body are different than the ones we consume which leads to them being broken down and put back together incorrectly. This is called a prion. Prions will often take the place of healthy protein chains in structure, energy metabolism or any other functions the healthy proteins are designed for leading to massive amounts of problems (this is what I believe happens in Mad Cow Disease where the prions actually cause the brain to rot). Prions are particularly dangerous because the immune system does not recognize prions as invaders. That being said it is quite possible they are suffering from the effects (and I would say there is evidence of a deterioration of their mental processes) but don't show the symptoms very noticeably on the outside.
