Ptlowe, the EU is becoming more politically, socially, technologically and economically integrated each year. The new constitution will probably be passed this year, or next year at the latest. Within 10 years the EU will be showing proper and developed charateristics of a country, as will be as strong as USA.

I am not an American hater, but I do believe there are some major and fundamental flaws with the system America use and I do hate the politicians and American government. I have nothing against American people and citizens.

Russias days are gone, they may be a great power, but never a super power within the next century at least. Also, I know people dont like the UK, but so what? I'm sure theres state in USA that people dont like, or people from certain areas that are disliked. When the EU is properly functioning then with more intergration between business and people then there will be more understading and less "hatrid".

China actually has the best chance to become the strongest world power as of right now, Russia on the other hand looks done for havent heard of them being very active since the cold war but i could be wrong

The thing with China is that most of its growth is through industrial and manufacturing means. Theres a limit to how much they can grow through those means. However, India is becoming very good at IT and software craetion, so in the future they could keep on expanding into the electrical and high tech market. The EU is already very well established in terms of exports. China needs to progress into a different market, but the only one that I can see them going into is finance. The main difficulty with that is that London, NY and Tokyo are going to do as much as possible to stop that and to make sure the power remains between them three, rather then with Shanghai as well.

China cannot really go into high tech industry anytime soon as they do not have enough well educated graduates to do so. Most of theit technological advancements are coming through espionage against the USA. India is pumping our 2 million university graduates every year, all of whom can speak English fluently. The EU has a very large educated population and the standard of education are among the best in the world and are still improving, especially significantly in eastern Europe and the new EU12.

Overall, I can't see in which areas China is going to expand into in the future, but even if they stay in the manufactuing industry they will become a superpower as they will have a huge voice in world trade, and eventually they will inporve their productivity and efficiency of the factories, which will lead to lower price. However, they are going to be pressured by WTO into putting their currency on the free market rather thena fixed rate. India will carry on expanding, especially into the high tech industry and electronic software creation. The EU is already there, and just needs to integrate more. Anyway, thats my view of the rising superpowers, and how they will turn out like in the next couple of decades.

This topic really does remind me of something in a booklet I have for my course. We were doing about history in popular media. It's talking mostly about U571, but also about war films in general.

Sadly, this is a very common theme here in the US. A large number of Americans believe that by being in Iraq, we are somehow deflecting and drawing the attention away from our homeland. They then go on to say that this is why there have been no more terrorist attacks on US soil, as the "evildoers" are all focused on our presence in Iraq.

Of course, this assumes that the extremists are spoon-fed idiots, which we know them not to be. Just a look at the escalating number of US serviceman deaths will tell you that.

Their is evidence that the reason more servicemen are dying is b/c of Iran. I do believe that they are suppling weapons to insurgents, but that does not make it fact it is just a suspicion. Americans do not think we won the second world war single handedly. The majority of us try our best to better our nation, but there are also some of us, such as hourman, who believe that we are almighty. We are the best or we wouldn't be on top. While that may not last for long there is nothing that any of your nations could do about it for the time being. Im not talking finacial means im talking military wise, as of right now they have THE worlds largest armed force...

I know they have the largest army in the world, but their technology is shite compared to the USA and Europe. UK, which has a much smaller army could beat them. The tanks, aircraft, navy, guns, armour, ammunition etc are all pretty standard in China comapred to our standards. Only when China becomes richer and can afford to pay for military research in the amount USA does can it even try to compete with them militarily.

Look at Russia in both World Wars. Number of troops count for a lot. For some reason I don't think China would have a huge problem sending thousands to their deaths...

Nevertheless, no ground war between China and the US or Europe will happen any time soon, so its a pointless argument really.
