The evidence is very simply that the rate of violent crime is no lower in states/countries that have capital punishment than in countries that don't.

You know, I've wondered about that. Is the correlation directly attributed to the death penalty, or is it because states/countries that don't invoke capital punishment also tend to have other similar laws leaning with the same worldview that complement each other, diluting the actual effect of the law?
