Does that block threads posted by people as well? Or solely the individual posts?

Just the posts, not the threads. There was a guy back in 2018 or so that everyone foed, so he kept necrobumping everything.

I now think we should separate the political and non-political. Because we have so many threads about politics in OT, it would be easier to move political threads to their own sub forum. I don't want to censor them though, I just don't want to see the political threads or the people who comment in them.

Fixed.

Real nice, DDS.
Fake-editing a quote, how 'low' can you go?
You sure you don't have an interest in politics??
Indeed, your cunning, political-lobbyist behavior in this thread shows more biting self-irony than anything you may have previously achieved with that metaphorical cup of water.

Anyway, the real solution is for you to just post Stupid Videos more frequently so that your beloved thread always stays near the top.
A most worthwhile and commendable effort, I might add. ;)

THAT'S QUALITY CONTENT AND YOU KNOW IT YOU SILLY f*ck!

Yes, of course! I was being sincere!
What I say is often ironic, ...but only rarely sarcastic.

Anyways....I hate all this vague talking points where everyone wants to hug and kiss each other. At least we have Votanic to try to clean this forum up with his novel hate talk.

It is true that the proliferation of highly-similar threads is annoying. However, it has been suggested to me that more aggressive moderation -- merging similar threads, and if necessary taking action against people who make too many -- is more effective way of dealing with the problem.

I'm not in love with this idea, because
  1. it will make a lot more work for me, and
  2. it's going to lead to a shitload of new accusations of bias
but the idea is out there.

KoolBak wrote:Do the members with the most tenure and who are obviously the most dedicated to the site get more sway in the voting?

I value your opinion more than most people's, but in this case I have to disagree with you.

The majority of visitors to this forum love to argue about politics. Cutting it out could cut out their last surviving reason to stay here.

jusplay4fun wrote:In my opinion, if you move Politics out of this Forum, it will likely die, a slow death (and perhaps a bit faster than CC will die out) with a whimper, and not a bang (Big or otherwise).

Politics is what many get passionate about, and there are few other such topics that inspire such passions.

I tend to agree.

Votanic wrote:2. I still seriously want TeeGee to explain the history and motivation for that lame Street Corner Forum, as I suspect it is a failed previous attempt at something very akin to this.

There's a very long history that I probably can't do justice. But basically, the site has always had arguments between people who say we have too much moderation and people who say we have not enough moderation.

Street Corner was meant to be a testing ground. Any paying member of Conquer Club can volunteer to be head moderator of Street Corner for 30 days, and demonstrate to the world exactly how their brilliant idea of maximum or minimum moderation will work. After 30 day, the Street Sweeper was to wipe the slate clean and someone else would have their turn.

Unfortunately, Street Corner died, not through any fault of its own, but because CC was already too depopulated to support the experiment. Only two people ever volunteered to run Street Corner. They both had equal lack of success, and a third has never stood up.

DirtyDishSoap wrote:I'm not asking for you to be restricted. I'm asking to move your 200 hundred threads of [place politican here] into its own political sub forim. That's it

And that cup of water thread was satire. It was meant to poke fun at you dorks because in EVERY thread, you guys start bringing it down into more political non sense.

Yeah, I think your frustration in real, and shared by many.

But I think killing politics will kill this forum. I think some variation on the "merging threads" idea might be the way forward.

Votanic wrote:However, having a limit on the number of new threads per player might be a good idea. Maybe 1 thread a week? (...1 a month?) That should be enough to handle any new wars, elections, or stupid videos that come down the pike.

I think you may be on to something.

I left for a while, like 10 years a while. I didn’t come back for risk and I didn’t come back for politics.

I can back for OT’s glamorous crap posting. Back in the day it was something else. A lot of you were around for it, but maybe with less people it faded? I still think OT is one of the best places on the internet. This was the Wild West.

Duk I don’t envy your guys’ decisions on this. But I don’t think limiting peoples’ quantity of threads will prevent the area from dying either. The biggest problem is that this is super organic, which means any changes have huge unforeseen consequences.

I remember Phatscotty and PimpDave annoyed the crap out of different people. Some loved one, but rarely both. I know it caused the mods a lot of headaches, but it was lively.

As the internet and people in general get less forgiving of differing opinions, this place becomes more important. As Koolbak says, I don’t post much and I don’t play much, so I won’t make a stink here. I do think you have something unique though.

At this stage, it's not going to happen. It was added in suggestions and I wanted to gauge if it was the desire/request/want of the majority, but so far not by enough to warrant the creation of a new sub forum.

I agree. OT is a great political forum where thinkers of all political stripes come together to debate and to have their minds changed.

Just look at saxitoxin. Once upon a time he merely like Donald Trump, but now thanks to OT he has been persuaded that he really really really likes Donald Trump.
