Raknar Raknison. Something like that. No doubts, the stupidiest mistake.

err, the stupidest mistake was them not putting in the ending where they MADE A CONNECTION TO ANOTHER WORLD.

...it was like, half of the plot, somehow put into 5 or so pages.
and the director left it out.

but i'll digress.

I never saw Eragon, but i heard nothing but bad things about it. The thing I liked about the book was you could really see the improvement of the writer over the course of the book. His imagination really took strength in the middle of the book, and continued on strong 'till the end.

If they put the portal in, they would have had to make a sequel.

err, they intend to, it should be out in 2009, and its called the subtle knife. If anything, the book was more originative than the golden compass, and Will is my favorite character of the series.

Speaking of sequels, lets talk about the Chronicles of Narnia: lion with and wardrobe sequel: PRINCE CASPIAN.

Come ON! I mean, Lion the witch and the wardrobe wasn't horrible, but it certainly wasn't great. And to make a sequel with the same characters, even though the same characters weren't as prominent (the basic storyline for the majority of the book is: those 4 kids go back to narnia, find its been, like, 1000 years since they've last been there, and find a dwarf who luckily enough is well-versed in the history of Narnia for the last 1000 years. They listen.)
I'll be really angry when the next one comes out.

On the flip side, it looks like theres a new director slated for the subtle knife, so whoopidoo!

It was a mistake to not make the end of the movie the connection to another world, but they will HAVE to start with it. Yes..I know, it doesn't end In Roger's death, which SHOULD have. But anyway..Let's hope the Subtle knife Ends up with Lee's death and Lyra's kidnapping.

BUt Iofur/Raknar, it was uncalled for. Ending it sooner, make it happier..Which they shouldn't have, but still...

What I'd really like to see now that special effects are good enough is a Voyage of the Dawntreader movie. Wow. It'd go great with hallucinogens.

I am laughing so much at the christian's criticism: first they criticise it for being anti-church then the people who made the movie told them that they watered it down and so the christians are attacking and I swear I'm not making this up: that it will be so good the children will want to read the books and the parents will buy the books not knowing   .

The best part of that whole thing was that a Catholic movie reviewer saw it and said "It's really not that bad, it's not as anti-religion as everyone's making it out to be" which then prompted the Catholic League to denounce the man's review and bury it under an ineffective boycott idea.

I don't the moral need necessarily be interpreted as anti-religion. It's anti-dogmatic. It's pro-individual. It's pro-liberty, pro-meaningful experience. Now if that's anti-religion...

Just realised:

In the second books, when Lyra goes to see Mary Malone for the first time, it says ( approximatly ):

''The Alethiometer doesn't indicate the name of people, opbviously. Lyra saw the name of Dr. Lister on a big board...''

In the movie:

Seraffina Pekala- I want to see how you use that instrument. Answer this: Who was my lover on this boat.
Lyra- (after checking the alithiometer ) Farder Coram.

Big plot mistake ? Probably the biggest.

it's probably intended that something was led to make her believe it was Farder Coram. PLus she also has her own intuition which also helped.

Well firee, it could have given hints to him...But since it's a movie, I doubt they searched that far to get that deep. The image in the alethiometer was farder coram at first.

Therefor, a mistake

It basically killed half of the second book, screwed up how (the old story teller's name escapes me) gets his mortal wound, skips them going to the coastal city, etc...

THats what happens to long books not directed by Peter Jackson...Thye plot gets screwed up because they have to fit the book into 1hr 30min timeframe (about).

I just finished the third book. They were stellar. The second book was the best. I cried at the end of the third. I liked the allegory throughout, and some parts of it were truly stupendous.

I didn't cry then because there was just SO MUCH SUSPENSE in the those last 40-50 pages of book 2.
