You can say the liga directly, otherwise it s like saying "the the premier league!" :P

I know "La" means 'The' but this is how it's used in English/British papers like Daily Mail and Mirror. It's the same when one says "The Al-Qaeda" rather than "The Qaeda" directly because the Arabic 'Al' means 'The' too.

Apart from that language stuff, Barcelona are almost champions. Real were supposed to beat Valencia and expects a Barca's defeat to Atletico next weekend, or at least a draw which would have been enough for Real to claim the title if they ended up having the same points of Barca due to their head-to-head lead.

Real were too unlucky tonight! Bale could have scored twice, and CR7 missed the penalty. Reminds me of Barca 2-0 Valencia last month, but the other way around when Barca were super lucky and got away with an undeserved win. After less than a minute from the start, Suarez scored, and then Valencia missed a penalty and a bunch of chances. Looks like Valencia had a major influence on deciding the champions this season!

I would like to hear your professional opinion on Casillas.

Whose fault is it? Florentino? Iker? Ancelotti?

--

I think Mourinho made it very clear but nobody wanted to believe him. Then Casillas almost cost us la decima. Iker must've given Ramos the biggest blow job of his life because if he didn't score that goal, everybody would've blamed Casillas.

I mean, if RM had a real goalkeeper, who knows, but maybe we'd be 3 points ahead of Barcelona.

And Ancelotti doesn't want to sit him because I guess he thinks he's not getting into that trouble, I guess he thinks that if he sits Casillas trouble would be worse if the team fails.

Let me remind you that even when Iker was Iker, the legend, I didn't like him that much. I always thought he had no reason to yell at the defenders that way, one thing is to yell to make them wake up and quite another always blame them for anything, with a face expression that denotes disaster or something similar. AND, for he always had excellent reflexes but come on! go for ONE ball in the air at least.

Imagine RM with Neuer. :D

not sure but i always hear it refered to "al quaeda" with no "the" in front in english... we definitely never say l'Al Quaeda in french for sure or el al Quaeda in spanish.

Well I'm happy Madrid isn't getting the title another year straigh.

f*ck monaco just scored on minute 2 against marseille which was kind of the final for the last champions league spot right now.
Paris pretty much won the title this week end even if it's not official after Lyon losing 0-3 against Caen (!!!) they are now 6 points up and 6 in play, so even if paris loses both last games and lyon wins both last games Lyon would have to work on its goal difference (+38 against +45)
It's funny cause everybody has always compalined that one of the biggest european cities, Paris, only has 1 club in first division abnd pretty much nothing elsewhere... Well the Red Star and the Paris FC are back in second division next season! I think it's cool. The red Star was founded by the guy who invented the world cup (Jules Rimet, which gave name to the world cup trophy before)

If you could compare the Red Star to other clubs in europe, it's pretty much the german Sankt Paoli, the spanish Rayo Vallecano or the italian Livorno politically here.

Battle for third and last spot in the champions league:

Monaco 65 (+22)
Marseille 63 (+27)
Saint Etienne 63 (+19)

We need to win both games and hope to see them draw one!!!

Would be nice for them if they did though. I have a lot of respect for them, they still have the best trophy room in terms of leagues, the best supporters and they ve never been back in the champions league since the early 80s...

Seriously? I never knew they had such a rich history. Then again the 80's is like the pre-historic to me.
In all seriousness though I'll still cheer for either Marseille or Monaco.(cuz they got belgians :) )

Ask anyone in his 40s+, Saint Etienne was by far the best french team of the 60s/70s, followed by Nantes. They didn t win a champions league just because of the "square posts" against the bayern in a champions league final and all. It was Platini's team. They had most of the best french players and a few top notch foreigners.

A lot of the older guys in france are Saint Etienne fans, it's still one of the top 5 most popular clubs at least. And their fans sing like nuts all game long with some great tifos, and are not known to cause trouble. They won the league cup 2 years ago and that was their first trophy in over 30 years.. They ve had some rough time spending all the 90s in second division more or less. They are consistently pretty good since the last 4-5 seasons. They have a huge rivalry with Lyon and it was very hard for them to see how successful they were in the 2000s.
Lol, to give an example, i just texted one of my best friends who is a die hard SaintƩ fan when marseille scored the second, telling him that both our teams now had a shot at the champions league... And he was actually pissed because he wanted monaco to win so they could overtake Lyon for the second place  (the second is directly qualified To the CL the third needs to go through a preliminary round)

It's always sad the fact that there will come a time when you have to walk away because you are no longer useful in a world that polarize a massive attention like football. If I was a player, myself, that thought alone could have killed my career apart from all pressures and challenges on the pitch.

As for Casillas, I think one of his biggest problems is the inconsistency. In Euro 2012, he was definitely the hero who saved Spain from being knocked out from group stage against Croatia, then he continued his brilliant performance and helped keeping the title. On the other hand, he blows it sometimes. While it might be unfair to say he sucks or not good (due to the great services he made for his team for longer than a decade), it's somehow necessary to admit that he's not a Real Madrid material anymore.

I don't know who should be blamed here, but all those you mentioned may fairly share the blame. Ancelotti is a legendary coach with a great profile who should not fear troubles, even though we are not aware of the atmosphere at the dressing room; hence, can't see what's going on in there.

Florentino? I don't think it's his business to tell Ancelotti what to do, or decide who to play. Theoretically, his job is to provide Carlo with weapons, and the latter is the one responsible for pulling the right trigger at the right time.

It's probably fair to blame media as well. When Mourinho did what you have described as the right decision, Madrid papers ruthlessly came to the defense of Casillas and drove Diego Lopez away from the Bernabeu. Casillas is just too popular to prefer someone else over him, so it's time to ask him to kindly leave; it's what happened to former legends like Hierro and Raul, so it shouldn't be a big problem for the club to do it again if they see Casillas holding the team back. I think Keylor Navas is better than him, and can be enough and make it unnecessary to sign a big name, albeit it's never been a problem for Real to spend big and sign a superstar, especially with Florentino in charge.

Problem with Real Madrid media, they are always biased and favor the Spaniards. This could be clearly seen in the Isco vs. James Rodriguez competition for a regular start. If the Colombian guy wasn't too good (and maybe superior to Isco by far) he could haven't survived that pressure. Injuries throughout the season has been helpful too because they secured Isco a place in the starting XI most of the times in various positions.

Spanish sports media is completely crazy. Bipolar. Schizophrenic.

And James is not in the same league than Isco. It's unfair to compare them, Isco has exquisite technique but that's about it. I've seen 2-3 games when I've said Isco is a crack, then all the rest I've said "wtf are you doing? pass the ball, do it quickly, now the strikers are off side and are coming back!!"

And Casillas has to go. Maybe he's not to blame, maybe he's giving all he's got left, maybe the coach should've given Keylor the position already. We see Barca has two goalkeepers that save goals, we see Atleti, Chelsea, Bayern have goalies that save goals. Iker just stops what goes in his direction and sometimes not even those.

Yes, bro. In a competition like Champions League, difference is made by tiny details; one mistake can kill you because you are facing the finest opponents in Europe. Also, in La Liga, unlike the English Premiere League, you can't afford dropping few points sometimes because the rest of opponents are not reliable enough to stop your rivals. If Real could manage to beat Barca in March, the league would have gone totally different. Good news, it seems to be changing with Atletico and Valencia getting stronger. Imagine how things would be when/if the wealth was distributed evenly or at least fairly.

I think there are many choices for Real Madrid in the mercato. De Gea seems to be adamant to extend for Man United, but it's not easy to get him while Casillas is still there because he may tend to avoid such a drama. Casillas is the kind of a player who wouldn't accept to be benched and he could create a lot of troubles inside the locker room, just like Mourinho's days when the team was split to two groups, so you either keep him as a starter or you make him leave the club.

Hugo Lloris is a very good choice in my opinion. He's a cool guy and very nice one who wouldn't yell at his teammates, and well, he's skilled. To be honest, I don't see the Spurs games to rate him accurately, but I remember he was very good with France in the World Cup qualifiers.

Talking about Barcelona's net, after years of pains caused by Valdes, they finally got real goalkeepers! :P

Lloris is an excellent keeper and quite under rated given how shit tottenham's defense is. He was really awesome when he played for Lyon and Nice.
Casillas has the same problem as Raul... he wants a career like Maldini, Del Piero, Gerrard, Giggs and all these guys. The problem is that they've lost fuel towards the end; and let's face it, they are the type of players who can't accept the bench because of the legends they are for the RM. Look at a guy like Buffon though... he's 4 years older and is still at his prime with 37yo. Or a guy like Pirlo can just spend the game walking and he'll still be the most dangerous juventino on the pitch with his incredible passes and free kicks.

Oh and a personal bet: The real betis will qualify to europa league next year!!! lol. Shit dude, the betis has such a copy paste patern over the last 10-15 years.... relegation, then win the second division with new blood, qualify the next year for the europa league, suck the year after and ending up relegated by 1 point or head to head and the cycle goes on and on... Shit dude, when I was younger we would never get relegated, now it's something I expect to happen every 3-4 seasons... give us those TV right money we deserve!!!!
PS: in second divison the betis had an average attendance of over 35k fans which is more than half of the clubs in first division. I'm tired to see all these worthless shit clubs in first division while we are in second (eibar, elche, granada, cordoba, almeria, levante, rayo, getafe.... I've never seen as many shit clubs as this season)

I thought he was much more under rated than this. To tell the truth, it was a bit of a scandal here for french journalists when Tottenham bought him and (I think it was Villas Boa at that time?) benched him behind the 40yo Howard, who is a good keeper but definitely not as complete and as consistent as Lloris. I mean you buy the number 1 keeper of the french national team just to bench him? People were starting to wonder if a benched keeper shouldn't be stripped from the number 1 position of the national team.. A keeping that isn't playing in his club shouldn't be playing for the national team..

And what real madrid is doing right now is to ruin keylor nava's career.

huh... shit you're right dude! I was thinking of another bold american keeper playing in England... Brad Friedel! I thought Howard had to move to Everton because of lloris... It's just Friedel who had to move to the bench when they finally realized that a 40yo keeper wasn't their future. Huh, since the story ws a few years old I was sure it was Howard... bad memory!

Exactly what happened to Ochoa in Malaga. But a little different. The coach told Kameni that if he accepted to reduce his salary to half so Malaga could hire another player, he would be the starter. And to be honest Kameni has done it well, I think he's made only one or two errors. And there's a debate as well in Mexico, but the national coach has respected Ochoa's place.

I wish RM could hire Neuer, he's a fucking wall.

i wonder if I've ever been impressed by a keeper as much as I've been by Neuer.. If he isn't the best keeper of all times, then who is?

Neuer might be the best footballing goalkeeper of all time, but there have been numerous goalkeepers better than him at all the rest.

well you can't remove his field skills to his keeping skills cause obviously when he does it it's for goal keeping. And he is really awesome on his line too. So yeah, give names. I honestly don't see who else I would put in my best team of all times line up other than him.

In their primes:
  • Buffon: unbelievable how he so often still had a hand(or leg for world cup) in front of the ball when it seemed he was beaten. Amazing ballpunching skills.
  • Oliver Khan: definitely one of the most decorated goalkeepers of all time, perhaps even the most decorated. Always seemed like such a big animal that could just grab balls out of the air as a gorilla as if it were nothing.
  • Casillas: Amazing reflexes. During his prime years only Ricardo of Portugal could beat him as a penalty goalkeeper, but overall Casillas his reflexes on the line were stupifying sometimes.
  • Schmeichel: was before my time, so I don't know him well but very revered
  • Lev Yashin: same as Schmeichel

I would vote Buffon. Some people say Lev Yashin was the best of all times, but I didn't see him and football was very different at his time, not to mention strikers weren't as developed and brilliant as CR7 and LM10 are today.

Buffon is such a legend. Italy would not have won the 2006 World Cup final if it wasn't for him. The Zidane's header was supposed to be goal unless you are watching a Bollywood movie in which a director is trying to exaggerate the hero. Buffon was there and saved just like a superhero! :D

It's hard to decide who's better when it comes to a comparison between Buffon and Neuer, so you just tend to pick the one you like more.

Know what sucks? When you see someone like Lloris having to play for Tottenham, and a dumbass like Valdes having the opportunity to play Barcelona and Man United, and getting to win the Champions League 3 times -_-
