Evolution
A scientific theory based on decades of observed fact, unlike Intelligent Design which has no observed fact. Evolution starts with the facts and then says "ok, what is the theory" while ID starts with the conclusion and then looks for facts to support the conclusion.
ID isn't science, it's theology, and forgive me if I don't believe we should be discussing theology in science class.
Sex Education
You do realize that sex is part of biology right? Kids will have sex whether you tell them to or not. That's how the species perpetuates itself. You might as well arm the kids with some basic knowledge and a means to keep themselves from getting pregnant and/or contracting disease. Staring a kid down and telling him that he shouldn't have sex won't work because you cannot defeat millions of years of reproductive instinct with a 2000 year old book.
Tolerance (same sex couples, marriage and lifestyle)
I thought Christianity taught tolerance, you know "love thy neighbor" and all that. Whatever happened to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"?
Now if public schools would stop teaching these I wouldn't mind public schools (oh and the lack of high standards).
How can a public school talk about, condone, say "its ok" to things like same sex couples knowing that many religions teach that it is not ok?
So to arrive at a happy medium public schools should eleminate these topics from there curriculum. Either that or allow Creationism, Abstanance, and morality to be taught.
Public schools are not there to make sure little Johnny becomes a good Christian or follows good moral standards. Public schools are there to ensure that little Johnny can get into a university and pass a few standardized tests.
If you want little Johnny to live according to your religion's teachings and customs, then either put little Johnny in a private, religious school or take him to church on a regular basis.
Keep your religion out of public school, unless you want schools to teach about Jewish, Muslim, and Pagan religious teachings as well. Freedom of religion baby: you either allow all of them, or none of them. No one is allowed to pick and choose which religious groups get to sit at the table.
Religion is a private matter and doesn't belong in public schools.
