There is no progenitor living cell that all life evolved from. Your belief that there has to be one is due to your misunderstanding of the theory.

If you started thinking like a scientist instead of a fundamentalist, you'd realize this.

The first organism came (possibly) from semi-living organisms like viruses and bacteria. All a virus is is a strand of RNA in a protein crystal while bacteria is a strand or two of RNA in a cytoplasmic matrix. Now, scientists can show that amino acids can fuse together to form "proteinoids" that can catalyze to a certain extent. So, a virus comes in contact with a proteinoid, there's a chemical reaction, and the RNA of the virus begins fusing with other proteins, amino acids, bacteria, and other viruses. The RNA then begins to mutate into more complex forms, such as DNA.

There is no original one life form, that's impossible. However, life can come from pseudolife.

For more information, look into the book Darwin's Dangerous Idea by Daniel C. Dennett at your local library.

where are the missing fossils? Of all the creatures on Earth that have "evolved" you would think we would find at least one fossil of a lizard devoloping a "wing bone" or something. But there is no such fossil. As someone stated earlier it takes more faith to believe in evolution then it does creation/God.

The fossil record is incomplete because the conditions needed to preserve organisms are so rare. That's all. And it doesn't take more faith to 'believe' in evolution (do you 'believe' in gravity?), just a bit of imagination and open-mindedness.

You didn't pay attention in class because you had been told, as a youngster, that evolution was wrong, before you had ever read up on it for yourself or made up your own mind. And now you vow never to let your kids decide for themselves, either. What are you scared of?

ok, first of all I don't buy the "conditions are so rare", we find dino fossils, human fossiles, fossils of all types of animals, birds and fish. And you would have me believe that all this "evolution" that has taken place there is no fossil evidence? Logic dictates I'm not an idiot.

I saw a bumper sticker the other day it said, "Imagination is more useful then knowledge". Can you be serious??? (They also had a Kerry/Edwards sticker on that same vehicle) Knowledge is "facts". Imagination is how we got Charlie and the Chocolate factory. The facts don't support evolution. I'm "afraid" that people are buying into evolution when it never happened.

I don't know what you learned, but there is more to evolution than evolutionary theory as the origin of life. You want to believe in creationism and not evolution? Fine, we can't go back in time. Fundamentalists by definition almost never change their minds. ;)

However, evolution does happen today. You insult your own intelligence if you say evolution does not happen at all. I think my university degree in biology (and those of Phds around the world) trumps the high school course you didn't pay attention in because of your bias. :D

You ever notice that many times the "intelligent" individual lacks common sense? You might have 6 PhD's and still not be able to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich (If this is the case there is a thread, "How to make a peanutbutter and Jelly Sandwitch") There is NO cocrerte evidence of evolution past or present.

The thing about it, is that evolution does not answer the "orgin of life" question. And doesn't even try. You go on believing that all life came from a single cell organism. Someone, be it God or Darwin, gave me a mind to use and analize things. And using logic, evolution makes no sense.

END OF THREAD

Okay so stop posting. Someone who is ignorant about the topic should not be speaking as if they do. Also, in my post I implied that there is a difference between evolution (the process) and evolutionary theory (as a theory for the creation of animals). You conveniently ignored this, yet felt free to imply phds in science are "unintelligent". give me a break

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0, ... 32,00.html

Quoted from article:
THE hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church has published a teaching document instructing the faithful that some parts of the Bible are not actually true.

The Catholic bishops of England, Wales and Scotland are warning their five million worshippers, as well as any others drawn to the study of scripture, that they should not expect ā€œtotal accuracyā€ from the Bible.

ā€œWe should not expect to find in Scripture full scientific accuracy or complete historical precision,ā€ they say in The Gift of Scripture.

The document is timely, coming as it does amid the rise of the religious Right, in particular in the US.

Some Christians want a literal interpretation of the story of creation, as told in Genesis, taught alongside Darwin’s theory of evolution in schools, believing ā€œintelligent designā€ to be an equally plausible theory of how the world began.

But the first 11 chapters of Genesis, in which two different and at times conflicting stories of creation are told, are among those that this country’s Catholic bishops insist cannot be ā€œhistoricalā€. At most, they say, they may contain ā€œhistorical tracesā€.

Thank you vtmarik

That a guy who confesses to having slept and fidgeted through biology class while evolution was being taught (aged what - 12? Why couldn't you make up your own mind?) can dismiss scientific doctorates is typical of fundamentalist hubris.

Jay you missed my point. There are billions of fossils, obviously. They are how we can piece together our past. But they only account for a tiny fraction of all the organisms that have ever lived on the planet. The conditions needed for a fossil to form from a dead organism are very narrow. That's all.
the enormous majority of scientists (creationism is not science) belive the theory of evolution best explains how we came to be here, and yet you dismiss THEM as illogical.

99.9% of scientists are illogical. Brilliant.

Creationism has just as much evidence as evolution yet it is dismissed.

Come on, you know this is false. Scientific method means testing a hypothesis over and over again until it either a) breaks or b) holds up enough to become a theory. Gravity, Quantum physics, electromagnetism are all theories, yet we build power stations, airplanes, computers based on these 'porous' ideas. Of course we can't definitively prove any of it, btu so what? They fit every observation made according to their respective theories. Find me one geneticist who rejects evolution.

Many christians find it easy to reconcile evolution with a belief in god. Even Darwin managed it. The support for creationism comes from Genesis, a 5,000 year old book. Support for Darwinism comes from scientists - almost all of whom were hostile when dariwn floated his idea - testing it over and over again. It fits, and i'm afraid there is no arguing with that.

Personally, I do find Pastafarianism as believable as Christianity, or Judaism, or indeed any other deity-worshipping religion.

I looked at some of this train wreck and I am just amazed at how people can not understand what science means? People do not exercise "faith" in understanding the principles of evolution. It is the best collection of observations based on physical evidence that there is. No faith, it is a working hypothesis. It is absolutely subject to change upon better observations of the processes that it is based upon.

So it must be that some people do not understand the scientific method nor do they understand what faith is. I know many people that do believe in God yet can objectively understand both principles.
