Iceland

Iceland is a heroic nation. Despite being saddled under the tyrannical thumb of NATO overlords during the Cold War, their plucky Coast Guard defeated the might of Britain's Imperialist Navy during the '76 fishing conflict in the Atlantic when an Icelandic hero of the working class ordered the crew of his 1200-tonne patrol boat to man the gun ports against a 2,400-tonne frigate of the imperialist navy, forcing the Queen to pull up her skirt and run back to the bed of her emasculated Greek husband. The AU provided a good summary of that incident: http://www1.american.edu/ted/icefish.htm.

I can tell you, verily, there was much cheering in Berlin back in the barracks of the Wachregiment Felix Dzerzhinsky when we watched that news on the tele that day. Our company commander, Aurt Fenstermacher, proclaimed "today we are all Icelandic!" It was a grand occasion! I remember it like yesterday - ahhh, memories of a better time.

saxitoxin I'm starting to respect your post, I don't know why you keep posting like this instead of bad jokes.

I only think I know what you just said. But, since you seem to like nihilist German writers -
"The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must destroy a world."

I put Hesse on colton24's reading list when I played him in game 6425922 but I don't think he's actually started it yet. All my best efforts to culture and raise him right just don't seem to be taking. :(

... and very cosmopolitan and urbane, too! Word on the street is they're moving Paris Fashion Week to St. John's. The 40-pound parka accessorized with a seal club and perfumed with a light hint of kelp and salmon guts is destined to be all the rage this year. (I've oft-wondered if the wealthy newfies who go to Miami for heart surgery are faking their ailments ...) LOL, J/K gang! All in goodsies!

Hey Saxipoison, welcome back from your self imposed exile. Glad to see you brought your sarcastic wit with you. You'd be nothing without it.

By the way, love the murderous thugs signature. Aren't they great. I think one of them even received a full pardon. What a country this is.

Well, see ya around soon.

So what are you saying about it when you say what a country this is?

I celebrate Canada and Canadians, as I've previously noted. In the brutal courts of some other countries in Europe and North America the four heroes of October '70 would never have received the justice they received by a reticent Canadian population who correctly apologized for creating the conditions that forced them to radicalize. Their status, BTW:

Paul Rose - unjustly convicted of murder for what was a heroic insurrectionist act, correctly released by the enlightened Canadian people and now an active leader of Canada's Confederation of National Trade Unions

Francis Simard - unjustly convicted of murder for what was a heroic insurrectionist act, correctly released by the enlightened Canadian people and now a bestselling author and screenwriter

Bernard Lortie - unjustly convicted of murder for what was a heroic insurrectionist act, correctly released by the enlightened Canadian people and now living in comfortable retirement in PQ

Pierre ValliĆØres
- unjustly served one year for a heroic insurrectionist act, author of the party book of the Bloc Quebecois

4 thugs that kidnap a guest in the country and murder him with the intent to start a civil war, and at least one gets a pardon 20 years later. What a country. I think another ran for office and got elected

Correction. None served more than 12 years as the Canadian people correctly apologized for creating conditions of oppression that forced them to take the actions they did.

And the guest, BTW, was from a country that says this about Canadians in official diplomatic despatches: "Canadians have limited talents and are deeply unimpressive. Anyone who is even moderately good at what they do - in literature, the theater, skiing of whatever - tends to become a national figure. And anyone who stands out at all from the crowd tends to be praised to the skies and given the Order of Canada at once." That doesn't sound like a country you should get your panties all up in your pooper about, does it?

In your profile it says you take umbrage with small minded bigoted morons. It's unfortunate that we still have people who believe in the 17th century notion of "corruption of blood" in this day in age. A very non-progressive attitude. Don't you agree? I'm sure you do.

Verily I recall as a young gefreiter in the DDR Volksarmee when the Quebecois began their national uprising in 1970. We were heartily cheering that they would succeed in lifting the malevolent cloven club foot of the anglophone supremecists (sp?) that was stomping down on their neck. And, while the farmers and worker's state the Quebecois wanted didn't transpire it certainly jump-started the cause of liberation from anglophone bigotry.

It was a great day, though. We were alternately signing Mon Pays in solidarity with Quebecois farmers and workers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KWH7loCnyA), Auferstanden aus Ruinen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVxipPk3iaQ) and, of course, The Internationale (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcXNXKtu8z4)!

Thanks, notyou2!

So, in a nut shell you are condoning cold blooded murder just as they did to the people that tried to cross from the DDR or Berlin to West Germany.

That's very "for the people" of you.

Or perhaps this is some East German trick, kinda like calling a communist country a democratic country...Deutsche Demokratische Republik (former East Germany)

Pull your panties out of your pooper, notyou2! I'm a socialist just like you, and just like the DDR. I am celebrating the fact that the Canadian people had the compassion to apologize for their great crimes against the Quebecois people by releasing these heroic fighters for equality and social justice after 1-12 years. It takes a big man to apologize and I celebrate the fact that Canada apologizes for many things quite often and continues to do so. For you to reject this makes you sound like some racist, testosterone-idled, right-wing nationalist. Booo!

In a spirit of international Dadaistic revolution for the liberation of the farmers and workers and oppressed people everywhere, thanks, notyou2!

I agree that Canada is a big-hearted country and perhaps is years ahead of many western nations in some respects, but does the oppression you are referring to necessitate cold blooded murder? Are there other methods that could have been used that would be less final and achieve the same end result without the cost of someones life?
