As stated previously, that is a PROVEN recipe for disaster.

Get everyone trained, be honest, be safe. It's the only way. Don't perpetuate the stereotype....please.

My kids just have no interest… I don’t think they’d go anywhere near the thing.
So why would they need training if they have no interest and wouldn’t even know I had a gun in the house?

Anyway… the more people want to talk me out of it the more interest I have in getting one. :)

Wrong. I think it's possible to have reasonable gun laws.

Canada has a high rate of gun ownership and doesn't have the carnage in the streets that the U.S. does.

Switzerland has an even higher rate of gun ownership and a very low level of gun crime.

Reasonable rules are possible, and while nothing can eliminate all problems, they can be reduced dramatically.

Yet you’re advocating that I shouldn’t get a gun for myself.

So that means you either assume I am a criminal or irresponsible.

Thanks!

Wrong again. I expressed NO OPINION on whether you should acquire a gun.

If you want to go skeet shooting, be my guest.

What I advised against was you fantasizing that you're Charles fucking Bronson and that your home is your castle and you will defend it against the unwashed barbarians outside.

Your fantasy depends on two separate and independent delusions. The first is that you're Charles Bronson and you're capable of it. The second is that if you do shoot someone, "self-defense" is a magic wand you can wave in front of the courts to escape all consequences.

Saxi has fairly comprehensively deflated the second delusion for you. If you don't remember his post, I suggest you go back and re-read it, because it was pretty thorough.

I've tried to deflate the first. If you're attacked by criminals, running away is statistically proven to be a more successful strategy than standing your ground. When people stand their ground, someone often gets hurt. Sometimes it's the criminal, but more often it's the victim, and all too often it's an innocent bystander who had absolutely no interest in the case.

My “delusion” is moot unless my home is invaded.

If no one ever invades my house then nothing happens.

If someone invades my house… someone is getting hurt.
I’m not gonna ‘run’ from my house.
So the only question (to me) is what gives me a better chance of living… a bat or a gun?

I frankly don’t give a flying f*ck about some potential future home invader.

Is this a reference to anal sex?

Not what I said...
Anyways ralph, remind us what you think of the Japanese again?

There's like 200 million Japanese people, I don't have a collective opinion on all of them. Unlike you I don't think someone's skin colour tells you anything about their character.

jimbo wins this thread. regarding home defence, why not just load up a 12 gauge with birdshot? you're not gonna kill anybody, unless you really, really want to with birdshot... . plus, it's pretty hard to miss w/a shotty in cramped places like hallways & kitchens... ;)

Within 15 feet (home defense range), it really doesnt matter what the load is :D

1 1/8 ounces of 9 shot will make the same fist sized hole that 0 buck will. The buck will damage bones more, but both are gonna keel das kriminal ded.....

For the caring folk that want to give the intruder a better chance to live (so he can sue you), use the age old rocksalt. Up close it can kill but it is a HELL of a wakey uppy at 10 plus feet.

Ive reloaded 12 G my whole life. Have supplies currently for 3000 or so rounds. I've loaded some very interesting stuff  My fave is a .45 caliber ball surrounded with 9 shot....the old 2 balls crimped on the ends of a piece of wire is fun. little nails are scary. So many options.
