Reading this morning that Mark Penn, who was a former Clinton aid is calling for an independent investigation over whether ABC rigged the debate. I don't know how you would be able to prove that, but the drama continues. If it's true, then why would either party continue to do these? There would be a tremendous amount of distrust in the moderators.

Votanic, you may be correct that these debates might become a thing of the past - at least in this format.

Since so many watched the Debate (nearly 40% of the likely voters) I would argue that the Debates are STILL Relevant to most voters.

More than 67 million people watched Donald Trump and Kamala Harris debate. That’s way up from June

Or they watch it for entertainment. Both sides think the opponent is an idiot. So, they want to watch for sound bites.

It's probably obviously a mix of everything. But that doesn't mean that debates are relevant in a way that would sway their opinion on voting.

Want liberal memes of people showing their pets reactions to Trump, and tons of post showing fox news pundits saying Trump clearly lost? You can find that on Reddit.

Want conservative memes with AI images of Trump hugging animals (irl Trump doesn't touch animals often, last image i can find is with a beagle in 2015)? twitter is now x, and Elon's algos prioritize right wing content now so you will get what you came for!

Don't want to pick a liberal or conservative option? Let facebook or tiktok learn what you like and then feed you a healthy portion of it every time you log on, while blocking the content you don't! Letting the algo decide means you can maintain the facade of believing you are getting a real mix of both side when that couldn't be farther from the truth!!!

That was my first thought. It absolutely depends on what echo chamber you enter as to what info you are going to hear.

r/politics hates anything Trump and will not allow anything to remain that could benefit him.
r/conservative is the small corner of Reddit that still won't get you banned for liking Trump.

But X definitely favors Trump or is at least a lot more open to him.

As far as Duk's comment... If you are talking about posts from FB friends that are actually people you know from real life, well you are gonna see that in your feed and the algo doesn't have much to do with it (so yes that is probably a more balanced view of what people in your social circle are feeling about the debate results). But if you 'like' alot of 'content creator account' content that's when FB starts to silo you and put you into the feedback loop. Their video feed (i can't remember what they call it but the little tiktok like feature where you flip through videos) is a great way for the algo to learn what to feed you because it simply measures how long you spend on certain types of videos vs others. For whatever very mysterious reason mine is constantly showing me girls in their early 20s doing dances in yoga pants...

I do not think everyone there is there for sound bites. If I did, I would wait for those and NOT watch the entire debate feed (90+ minutes). I watched the Debate so that I can form MY OWN OPINION without influences of media and talking heads. Imagine THAT, someone trying to watch and listen without biases.

And 67 million is not an insignificant number because it does not support your view of WHY others watched. That is nearly 40% or so of the electorate. NOT everyone agrees with you and watch for the SAME reason you did.

And I already said not many opinions were changed due the the Debate. This election is ALREADY Polarized and only some 10% (and likely closer to 5% or less) of the electorate is likely undecided NOW.

Totally. Some people will watch it with unbiased opinions, but probably not many. I didn't mean mine to sound argumentative or that 67 million people all watched it for entertainment.

I don't think many people agree with me or would watch for the exact same reasons I did. I also did say that people probably watched it for a mix of reasons. I don't see how that would bother you.

The reason I commented at all was because 67 million people watched the debate and not many changed their opinions. That means the debate isn't that relevant to voting. People are forming the unchanging opinions long before the debate. If they had a debate earlier, then it may stand a chance at changing peoples' opinions. But the current way things go, there is little need for the debate.

I am not going to go through and emphasize words that I find important. I will trust you to read my post without them.

Responding to both of you.

I'm sure not many minds were changed. But there's not many in play. Only six (possibly twelve in the most extremely optimistic view) states are considered "battleground states". The remainder don't matter. In those six states, probably less than 10%, and possibly as few as 3%, of the voters are undecided. I've heard some analysts say the election could be decided by as few as 20,000 votes.

That's the unfortunate reality of a district-based first-past-the-post system. Most people's votes don't matter. The vast majority of Californians who will vote for Harris, and the vast majority of Texans who will vote for Trump, are both equally unimportant. Both have already been written off by the strategists of both parties.

The difference in the popular vote might be as much as 5 million, but the votes that actually count might be as few as 20,000.

I think I have already said nearly ALL this, several times. The only change is that the number of undecided shrinks.

----------Like I said....In another thread before... In time...Just about everything TRUMP says...Turns out to be true...
---------- When he came down the escalator...He was known to say...The Illegal Aliens who are going to cross the border...Will bring murderers and rapists...etc...As countries empty their jail cells,etc...It has...Alot of people, family of victims, spoke in Congress...
---------- The Illegal Aliens who were arrested for shooting The American Bald Eagle... Eating them...The Eagles were making a comeback from extinction...Were from South America... Venezuela etc...
---------- Springfield, Ohio... Population,about 60,000... American Culture...
---------- 30,000 Haitian Illegal Aliens (Some, in connection with the Biden Administration, flown in)....Come from a Caribbean Culture, where weird rituals...Do some crazy sh*t...On top of that...A poor starving culture...So , Americans wouldn't eat cats and dogs...But a unique Caribbean Culture, where Voodoo...Is also a thing in some parts...It is not that far fetched...Monkeys are eaten in parts of the world...Dogs are eaten in some parts of the world...
-------- During October here in America... People are warned about their cats... Because, Americans will do some crazy sh*t with Black Cats...
-------- Has anyone talked to the residents, who called 911, Instead of the City Officials(by Debate moderators)???
-------- The real truth, either way will come out...
-------- Remember East Palestine, train wreck... Everyone went and talked to the town residents...Time will tell....But, As crazy as it sounded when TRUMP said it...That stuff does happen around the world...As many things, that seems crazy to Americans, America...With open borders, the world is in America's backyard... Literally...
... O:) ConfederateSS.out!(The Blue and Silver Rebellion)... O:)
---------But whatever happens... TRUMP said it....What has it done...PUT ILLEGAL ALIENS... OPEN BORDERS, IN THE SPOT LIGHT... PEOPLE ARE LOOKING AT THE ISSUE...
------- The Illegal Aliens taking over places...Like Aroura, Colorado...When people in the apartments complaining to City Officials....The City Officials basically said, you are imagining it...NOT UNTIL VIDEOS CAME OUT...The Officials couldn't hide it anymore...Are people waking up... Illegal Alien Gangs, now have been found taking over buildings in El Paso, Texas....Why???...THE SPOT LIGHT HAS BEEN TURNED ON.... Especially, to undecided voters...
