Well I don't hate the Venezuela govt, but only because they're America's problem, not mine.

The main problem I have with the government is that it's desperate for power (especially Chavez). That they recently shut down yet another private television company that was a bit anti-socialist government is an example. Chavez is going down the path of every new dictator and the fact that he was democratically elected does not excuse this (Hitler anybody?).

The other problem I have is that Venezuela is a socialist economy. Where would they be without their government monopolised oil economy? [insert free market policies rant here].

No, I was getting my facts from the BBC and The Guardian. Neither you nor ksslemp has responded with anything more than insinuation and innuendo.

It's not surprising that Bush and the Iraqi government would be hostile to the figures, not least since Bush has made sure that the number of casualties in Iraq has never been counted.

But no serious challenge has been made to the figures, and certainly not by epidemiologists (the LA Times criticism doesn't present any argument except astonished disbelief.)

Im not going to get into a 'my system of government is better than your system of government' argument here, (I still support a vaguely socialist system of government, though) but I have to say that Capitalism is completly and totally unsustainable. America is using up a huge percentage of the Earth's resources (Google still isnt co-operating; I estimate around 30%). Say my figures are true. Thats 30% of everything produced flowing to 5 or 10% of the worlds population.

Please tell me, how exactly is that sustainable?

We are running the planet into the ground with only 5% of its population capitalist. What do you think would happen if we made the whole world capitalist? 600% of the worlds resources are necessary if we want to keep the world in unecessary luxury.
