American's are too rich and culturally advanced to pay attention to soccer.

Soccer is so popular worldwide because there are so many poor countries.

Yeah, but I had to sacrifice money and being cultured to do so…

There are exceptions of course, as I was speaking generally. Why do you think soccer has such a hard time in America?

Low scoring, bad spectator sport in American minds. Flopping, umm.... I'm really just paraphrasing a debate that's been going on for some time. And culture and wealth has never come up. Granted, you never came in here before...

I don't want to rag too much on soccer because I already laid out my points. Soccer is a great game and it's awesome at times.

That said - it's not just that guys miss open goals, but that they boot the damn ball way up into the stands and then hold their hands over their head. Then you hear the announcer say something like, "oh, he knew he missed a golden opportunity on that one". It's one thing to miss and it's another to kick the freakin' thing high up into the crowd. My friends and I have been getting into the tournament though. It's fun. We take a drink every time somebody kicks the ball high into the stadium and then covers their face.

We had to stop after the 15th time in the 1st half or we wouldn't have lasted.

And while I don't really like watching soccer, it's my most fun sport to play.

Except I'm always told I'm a "ball hog". It's funny because I play defense. =D

It's hard not to kick it too high. When you kick the ball hard, you have to angle your foot just right to keep it down. If you kick it without thinking, it'll go up, especially if it's bouncing.

So what constitutes a rich country, other than the US? There's a difference between a Western European country in a recession and Haiti or something. It sounds like you think the entire world is poor, except for the US.

That's probably cause you're leaning back when you're shooting. When you shoot if you lean back, the ball will go up. If you lean forward it will stay down.

One, and only ONE, of the problems with soccer, is too often they play not to lose. Preferring to settle for a draw. Oh, yes, and some of them should be wearing skirts, the way they flop like little girls when they fall:)

Isn't that how it happens in most sports? I doubt there's many, if any, sports where participants try to lose...

Sad that first and second from 2006 both look to be eliminated in group play!
