I've never been brainwashed... My Father is a Christian and my Mother is an Atheist. I made up my own mind with no bias either way...

Bullshit. You are indoctrinating your kids now and have been from the day they were born. Maybe a manger in the front yard during christmas? Grace before the meal? A few stories about "baby jesus"? You are making them go to "religion classes"? Muslim classes maybe? I think not. ;) Yes you are certainly letting them make their own decisions.

If you really want your kids to make their own decisions, leave them alone until they are adults instead of brainwashing them from birth like you were.

If you want to teach your kids to be christians, fine. But don't delude yourself into thinking they just happened to choose it on there own 18 years later.

1. I don't have kids, I'm 15.
2. If I didn't take them to church and religious classes, they would never go and never care. Either way I do it, their decision would be based on what they've learned in the past, So make them go to religion classes, about 7 years. Then don't make them go for 7 years. This puts them at 18, they can make their decision then. They've spent time in both, they can decide which is better.

Would you ever send them to an Islamic class?

heavycola wrote:Evolution explains how complexity can arise from simplicity. That is, as far as I can tell, what it does. Every creation myth, including the hebrew version, posits the existence of a being whose complexity far outstrips our own as having been there at the beginning of it all. How does a being so complex as to be omnipotent arise out of nothing when the complexity of a mere human brain requires almost the entire age of the universe to come into being?

Your only looking at it from the evolution angle. If evolution is true as you think, then yes God cannot be because he couldn't have been there from the beginning. But looking at it from the Creationism angle, God existed right away, humans didn't evolve but were created fully developed. Looking at both angles, both make sense in themselves. Other things may disprove either of them, but in themselves both make sense.

Chris: Do you agree with the death penalty in the case that someone killed a human being?

Snorri: What's with all the "that has nothing to do with evolution?" This thread isn't called evolution, it's called Creationism vs. Evolution, things about creationism have just as much right to be here. You missed the entire point of the parts pertaining to creationism, they were trying to show you how looking from the creationism angle, everything is in place, while from the evolution side there are holes.

Question: How is it that animals can't speak or do more "intelligent" things like that?

If we all evolved from basically the same thing, why are humans they only ones that can talk and build structures like we do? It doesn't make sense that we get all these traits while other animals have none of them.

You're insinuating that you believe in intelligent design. Humans evolved in the right direction and were able to overcome all other intelligent races. I do not support the death penalty. I simply joke about supporting it. I do not, but I am also a supporter of Pastafarian creationism and I feel that that theory is just as valid if not more valid than creationism.

I'm on your side!!! So is Bobby Henderson (the founder of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster). He made it up to prove that the religion was just as reasonable and truthful as any other religion.

Because your childish spamming of an idea expressed much more eloquently and, indeed, successfully by Bertrand Russell is tiresome, annoying and contributes nothing to the thread. You're a kid whose discovered a funny little notion on the internet... indeed, one that was funny for about a month three years ago... You've not got anything specific or relevant to contribute, and you've made a separate thread about it anyway!

Mockery is a great form of protest, but not when its done as noobishly as your purile attempts.

Now will you f*ck off?

You're wrong. I do have plenty to contribute to the argument at hand. I have been researching about evidence and paradoxes that disprove the existence of God.

I can understand you wishing for them to be given an introduction to religious study but if you want them to make a balanced decision then they should also be introduced to opposing points of view, would you for example give them books that promote an atheist stance ?

Nice one. I've not seen a better synthesis of the problem of evil in years!

If you're going to try and debate (specifically in a thread which is based on science and logic) I'd rather you either made a proper attempt or didn't bother at all. Anyway, conversation over. Bye.

HOw is that not a good interpretation of the beliefs of Christianity? Many Christians associate accepting Jesus as your savior as being the key to going to heaven. This means that Jews, Atheists, Agnostics, and Muslims all go to hell (which is a racist and predjudist belief.)
