Where's the King George III option? He deserves a bit of credit as the proud defender of the colonies against terrorist attacks and racists.

Erm- yeah, Lincoln.

Sorry...

I heard he had some kind of duel devised involving a pit and huge swords. That's enough for me, even though it's probably a myth. It's a good myth.

Sounds like your describing most of our presidents.
I don't recall saying that about any one else except Andrew Jackson.

So you're the culprit!
Jesus, I hate it when people necro threads... I keep thinking that people have come back... just to find out the thread's years old...
And I really don't have an opinion on who is the greatest United States president. f*ck history. ;P

This cannot be done...\

There is the american startup age -- washington and jefferson win hands down.

The expansion years of the US... Manifesto destiny... from polk to lincolniss

Next is Early american instialism ... lincolnish to truman

Then perhaps the cold war age.... trumanish to Reagen

Then the modern era global meltdown and integration.

Reagen to now.

Completely seperate eras guys... At the beginning to be a good president was just to be a quiet leader that made subtle changes with the aristocrats of the Us.

You cannot combine these eras and pick a best. Lincoln kept the country together during expansion. Reagen kept us together through world econmincal disaster and cold war culmination. GB jr whether you like him or not, was the right man for the right era.

Its tough guys.... lot of great men. Did great things that were needed at that time.

Weird thread suggests that Reagan was as important as Washington or Lincoln.

for one simple reason. He brought my country back closer to the ideals of Washington and Lincoln.

Reagan also made it legal for US citizens to own gold again, which was something our worst president FDR confiscated from every American illegally and FDR used deadly force and imprisonment to steal the money from every person in America.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and ask you what you mean by that, cos it kind of sounds like BS, what with gold wedding rings and such.

Executive Order 6012
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_6102

Executive Order 6102 is an Executive Order signed on April 5, 1933, by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt "forbidding the Hoarding of Gold Coin, Gold Bullion, and Gold Certificates within the continental United States". The order criminalized the possession of monetary gold by any individual, partnershi

Oh, and not to leave out the second worst president of all time, Woodrow Wilson....
Under the Trading With the Enemy Act of October 6, 1917, as amended on March 9, 1933, violation of the order was punishable by fine up to $10,000 ($167,700 if adjusted for inflation as of 2010) or up to ten years in prison, or both.

I think others identify this as Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Progressive agenda and it's plan to destroy America

Oddly enough, I have, which is why I found your statement that "Reagan made it legal to own gold again" both bizarre and completely unjustifiable.

man, you really stick your neck out there don't ya?

There were no gold coins minted as legal tender from 1933 to 1986.

So, people could own gold, completely contrary to your claims that Reagan let them. Just to be clear.

It says that it was illegal to hoard gold. I'm sure that some still did, but it was not legal.

The answer could not be any more obviously Jefferson.
He is the one who came up with what it means to actually be an American.

Washington used his presidency to award a canal building project to a company he was heavily invested in. He used his office to make money.
Regan invaded and destroyed the government of Grenada, a peaceful island. The complacent American media then created 1,000 excuses for him.

Jefferson did the most as far as expansion. He did bring many together when he said "we are all federalists, we are all Republicans" but T.R. did a lot to make us a superpower and Lincoln saved our union. I think very highly of Jefferson but you can not say that it was obviously anyone.
