Yes, there is a Dice God. Pray to him atleast 5 minutes of your day and you're going to roll an average of 3,75. Pray alomst 24 hours per day and you'll win a 4vs20.

I have no proof, but I asked her the other day and she said she didn't know if she existed either.

Thanks pal, same to you.Well it is the single most fascinating topic ,at least for me..
Am I wrong in saying there is no proof,as opposed to evidence, for the existence of gods? Not saying the evidence is remotely convincing btw.

I can see the slight semantic difference between proof and evidence but, to be honest, when it comes to god/s and such I see little point in differentiating. There is no god and I state that as a fact. ;)

It's rather more than just semantics,if as you say 'there is no god,and I state that as a fact',how would you go about proving this non-existence?Atheism/theism relates only to belief or the lack of,not knowledge which relates to agnosticism/gnosticism.
Of course you can say you are a gnostic atheist, but personally I take the agnostic atheist position as I disbelieve in the existence of gods but can claim to have no knowledge of this existence/non-existence, which seems pretty much unknowable to me.

Fascinating here as well Chang. I think that in order to have proof, you need evidence. I think the proof starts in the bible or in other words, the evidence. We can agree to disagree on this topic as I am very aware of your beliefs. I'm not sure if you have or not Chang, but have you read the bible? You most likely have by reading posts of yours in the past. With that said, I am curious on your viewpoint regarding the the bibles words/message. What does it mean to you and how in your opinion did these words come about?

Well I haven't read the whole book, but I obviously don't think it was divinely inspired. It is one holy book amongst many,re-interpreted many times, contains some historical truth, has some beautiful poetry/prose,and an ambivalent morality, its contents arbitrarily chosen by men.

Actually I don't care wether there's a God or not, but something has always been intriguing me:
where does this notion of right and wrong, good and evil come from?

Only if you believe sex before marriage is wrong. We wouldn't be here now if our ancestors hadn't practiced it.

Of course they do,prohibiting these things led to greater social cohesion and cooperation.

Ok - if there is a God would it be a guy with a beard? Would it have a human image?

If something can create everything then how our we ignorant tiny species expect to understand it?

We dont even understand our own 3-dimensional planet very well, so we dont have much chance of understanding the infinte and multi-dimensional.

Face it humans, none of us have demonstrated any capability of understanding such great things.

Even if the prophets that are written about were somehow more divine than the average man, chances are thier words have been twisted and manipulated over the millenia since they trod this earth.

Even if their words have nott been tampered with, can our mortal languages really be expected to enable us to understand the infinite? If our brains cant understand such things in the first place, surely a few words can magically change that?

Sadly, I suspect that various linguistic versions of morailty, proclaimed in the name of bearded men in the sky, are more about "cultural survival" than "human survival".

Animals have a survival instinct too, but I don't think they know right from wrong.

I know what you mean, since humans are social animals, they need to establish rules that will benefit to the whole society, otherwise it wouldn't work, and maybe that's just evolution, but still... I can't help wondering.

monogamy can have evolutionary benefits. "no sex before marriage" is just a codification of this maxim

i fail to see how monogamy helps to get a more diverse genepool. wasn't the point in evolution to get a genepool as dverse as possible, and therefore its beneficial to have sex with as many persons of the opposite sex as possible? preferable persons with different genetic attributes?

and like others have stated before me, why are humans the ONLY animal that follow this rules, if it was so important for survival, wouldn't at least a few other animals show even the slightest signs of this behavoir? they don't.

also, humans were never created to understand every single detail, you know what? even angels don't understand everything. jesus himself (the first creature ever created.) stated that he never stops learning. which means even jesus does not understand every single thing yet and he probably never will. then how can mankind be so arrogant to claim they can or should?
