Who speaks with the best fake southern dialect?

Postby saxitoxin on Mon Mar 12, 2012 3:18 pm

Which Ivy League-schooled New Englander is able to affect the most convincing fake dialect when campaigning in Alabama?

A - MITT ROMNEY

B - HILLARY CLINTON

Hillary tried to hard. Mitt actually went back to upper-crusty New Englander after he said "y'all." Hillary did not.

Also, negative points to Hillary for not using a Jersey accent when introducing the mayor of Trenton.

But he did lie about what he had for breakfast - "uh biscuit 'en sum cheesy grits, I-a tell ya!" (obviously he actually had eggs with black truffles and a Chocolat Chaud)

Yeesh.

My instinct was to go with Romney simply because he only had to say a few words. It sounded fairly well practiced because of it. But Hillary gets credit for giving it a real effort, even though it got progressively worse as she went on.

I heard recently that Mitt Romney is 65. If he looks like that at age 65, he's likely eating power bars and/or a veggie egg white omelette for breakfast.

Also, Hillary was married (sort of) to a man with a thick southern accent. You think she would have a better southern accent.

Related story - My wife and I were watching CBS News the other day. There were two senators... one a southern Republican and one a northeastern Democrat. Both had thick local accents... which made me wonder - if Lindsey Graham ran for office as a Democrat in New York or Massachusetts or New Jersey, would have a chance in hell of winning? If Chuck Schumer ran for office as a Republican in Tennessee or Alabama, would he have a chance of winning?

lol I completely did not think of Arkansas Bill. That might be part of my problem with Hillary's bit as well. They're funny up air in Arkansas.

As for voting in a Yankee Republican, I think it's possible. It's probably more likely if they come from the midwest than New England though. More heartlandy is a good image. But, in bigger cities, I wouldn't root out the possibility, particularly if their record is in-line.

While this fellow could be elected King of Louisiana, would he be able to hold any office in New York? (hidden video of BBS follows)

Well, we have (maybe) a real life example in Rudy Guiliani. And part of me likes to think that Chris Christie didn't run because southernors would hate him (although the realistic part of me realizes Christie hasn't really done anything... just talked a big game... my property taxes are still insane).

That being said... Mitt appears to be going over well in the south, although southern republicans still like them some super social conservatives like Santorum.

I'm surprised at how poorly Gingrich did. He was splitting voters with Santorum to a degree, but I still expected him to do better.

I've noticed a similarity in accents between people living in the West Bank of New Orleans and people living in Brooklyn. It's odd.

Did Clinton do a better job in this video from :09 to :13?

"Imma 'fraid imma gunna lift up th' ruuuug 'n imma gunna see so much stuff uner der ..."

She at least gets a +1 for layering it over a folksy metaphor.

She could have sold it even better if she had a band backing her up.

Santorum has been the surprise package, he came from the rear and now he's running all over Newt. Romney better watch out, when Santorums at your rear, it generally means you getting fucked boy.
