Also, negative points to Hillary for not using a Jersey accent when introducing the mayor of Trenton.

But he did lie about what he had for breakfast - "uh biscuit 'en sum cheesy grits, I-a tell ya!" (obviously he actually had eggs with black truffles and a Chocolat Chaud)

My instinct was to go with Romney simply because he only had to say a few words. It sounded fairly well practiced because of it. But Hillary gets credit for giving it a real effort, even though it got progressively worse as she went on.

Also, Hillary was married (sort of) to a man with a thick southern accent. You think she would have a better southern accent.
Related story - My wife and I were watching CBS News the other day. There were two senators... one a southern Republican and one a northeastern Democrat. Both had thick local accents... which made me wonder - if Lindsey Graham ran for office as a Democrat in New York or Massachusetts or New Jersey, would have a chance in hell of winning? If Chuck Schumer ran for office as a Republican in Tennessee or Alabama, would he have a chance of winning?

While this fellow could be elected King of Louisiana, would he be able to hold any office in New York? (hidden video of BBS follows)

As for voting in a Yankee Republican, I think it's possible. It's probably more likely if they come from the midwest than New England though. More heartlandy is a good image. But, in bigger cities, I wouldn't root out the possibility, particularly if their record is in-line.
