Book of Eli

Postby Nobunaga on Mon Apr 02, 2012 4:40 pm

I just saw this film. It was entertaining, as I enjoy anything with Denzel Washington (Training Day was a superior film)... but what's with that ending?

Denzel had someplace he needed to go. Come hell or high water, he absolutely had to get that Bible to Alcatraz. ... But what's with the girl? Where the hell is she going at the end? And why?

Pointless ending.

She's following his example. Remember, Eli changed after he met her. He realized he wasn't following the book properly if he abandoned her. She's going out to save someone the way Eli saved her. If only Christians were really like that.

I love that movie. Gary Oldman was great in it too.

Do you find it pointless because you're selfish and use religion to justify turning your back on your common man? Honest question.

No, seriously though. So many Christians just hide out in a little bubble they create for themselves and declare everyone else evil and irredeemable. That's what Alcatraz signified in the movie.

I liked the movie too, but Denzel had to have evolved some wicked echolocation or something. I find it hard to believe he was capable of all the action sequences unless he was secretly Daredevil or something.

Oh and also, Mila Kunis' mom was still in Gary Oldman's clutches. So she needed to be rescued and stuff...

Yeah, I own this, and I've watched it one time... But is Eli blind or no?

Who doesn't love post-apocalyptic movies? Even the cheesy grindhouse ones are fun.

yeah I saw this movie and it was so cool!

very violent but overall it was thrilling. I thought he was a little too confrontational, but hey you don't survive the atomic desert by being... (train of thought derailed at the task of choosing best word)

But yeah saw it once. Entertaining.

Yeah Denzel's been in some great anti-hero/villain roles.

Training Day, American Gangster...

He's not what I would consider an amazing actor though. He always plays the same character. I mean, you put him next to Tom Hanks and there is no comparison.

Except that Tom Hanks can't intimidate the shit out of you. Denzel Washington in American Gangster though, my man.

Viggo Mortensen is like a chameleon. The only person better at completely disappearing into a role was John Wayne. Or maybe Keanu Reeves.
