Fruit

Ok, I'm just gonna say it.

Strawberries are just so bland... What's up with that? Blandest fruit out there.

Get them fresh and in season. Back when I lived in Japan, the school I worked in was really small, but serviced a rural community that was famous for strawberries.

The teachers used to get baskets as presents. Abosolutely amazing. The inside of them, if you bit them in half, had sugar crystals.

But anyway, strawberries are great. Just get the good ones.

There was a strawberry festival nearby that I went to last weekend. We filled a small bucket. I'm not as big a fan of sweets as I used to be, but I love me some strawberries. The sugar crystals that Symmetry mentioned are pretty awesome to see.

Pears are my favourite, but again you have to get them in season, and when they're ripe. When they're tough like an apple, pears are awful. When they're soft and juicy, there's nothing better.

Wow, that sounds awesome.
The only fruit I have a problem with are peaches... The texture is disgusting, imo. The taste isn't bad, I actually think they're all right, but I can't get past that texture.

I haven't had fresh pears. I did visit an apple orchard last fall, and they had a shit ton of different apples. They told us not to pick the pink ladies and two other ones because they weren't ripe yet. The ripe apples were pretty tasty, but most of them were almost sickeningly sweet (to me). The two others I mentioned were bitter, hard, and gross. The pink ladies, on the other hand, were slightly sour, with a full apple flavor that was not overpowered by the sweetness. I ate too many of them and got a pretty intense headache.

Georgia peaches are pretty tasty. And the state fruit ain't bad either.

Badum tish.

You're probably right. These ones I'm eating right now are just not the tastiest. I usually put sugar on them and have none. :(

If you get the chance, and it's available where you are, go out and do some strawberry picking.

It is with all fruit and veggies. The fresher the better. More nutrients and better taste. Ever had corn that you picked off the stalk yourself. Pure sugar. mmmmmm

Strawberries alone, strawberry milkshake, strawberries with cream and sugar..

Apples are great too, they are amazing for your health, if you don't like them at first you will find em awful but if you keep eating one every day, you will find your body loves them. One as soon as you wake up is great.

Kiwis and pears are great too.

Strawberries are amongst my favourite foods and I do believe most people don't make enough use of them in cooking or raw.

My favourite method of eating Strawberries cold is in the fashion of the Romanoffs. I have adapted their dish over the decades and now mash 25% of the strawberries I have before preparation.

One should always use Cointreau as well. This liqueur, along with finely shredded orange zest brings the flavours to the surface in a magnificent fashion. I like to whisk my cream Chantilly style to add further sweetness and then fold the mashed strawberries in.

if one is feeling particularly adventurous on a hot summers day, a fully whisked Chantilly cream/strawberry/cointreau/orange zest (for decoration) thick cream shake that really needs spooning from chilled crystal half pint mugs served with a decent champers is heaven on the taste buds...and does help one relax.

I often use a reduction of strawberries with game meats as a rich sauce. Always brings a comment and the odd raised eyebrow.

that's why someone went out there and either discovered or spliced two fruits to make nectarines.

my favourite flavour fruit is passion fruit, but i hate fruit with seeds like that and pomegranate's etc

Strawberries with vinegar are the nuts. But not malt vinegar.

They aren't always great when they are not in season. We are supposed to be thankful the market makes them available year round, and in the off season just throw some sugar or strawberry glaze in with it.

If you want a can't miss with strawberries, grab those stem on 4 packs when they come around. Also look for darker seeds on the outside.

I really like crispy pears... Boscs are the best.

But all in all, I'm a citrus guy. My favorite fruit has got to be tangerines or tangelos.

Asian pears are dope. As are clementines. And mangoes.

Pineapple is good, but makes my tongue itchy.

Of "regular" fruits you can find in an average American grocer, I'd say good old naval oranges win for me.

Clementines are not available year round, as their cuteness is only viable in certain months. Navel (still not sure which is correct) oranges on the other hand, are like ugly belly buttons at Bonaroo, just completely rampant.

At least, that's what I've gathered in my not at all regular trips to the grocer.
