Pardoned? She deserves an apology.

Yeah, well, by our standards, sure. But looking at it realistically, she was found guilty of a crime (that we don't consider it a crime is irrelevant, this wasn't in either of our nation). Even in our nation, if someone is wrongly convicted and then found later that shouldn't have been convicted, that someone would get a pardon.
It's just a process. Not much different than any other nation's process actually, of adjudicating a wrongful conviction. What's different is the nature of the charges, which wouldn't ever be done in our nations. But this is Dubai. Completely different culture, different laws, different everything.
At least the guy who allegedly raped her got 13 months in prison. That's not too bad, even for our standards. I dunno, what's the average prison term in the US or Mexico for rape of that nature? And lets not forget the guy wasn't even charged with actual rape, I don't think. If someone were convicted of rape in Dubai I'd bet the sentence would be quite severe, if they even prosecute for rape. I dunno. The way they treat women there might not be such a thing as rape. But I wouldn't be surprised if a rape conviction in Dubai or other middle eastern countries had a minimum sentence of castration, or death. Even for first offenses.
It's just a completely different culture than what we are used to. It's probably a good idea to always remember that.
