The City of San Francisco's Reparations Commission, established by Democratic Party Mayor London Breed, finished its work last week and has determined the city must pay each Black resident $29 million, in the form of a $5,000,000 lump sum payment plus $97,000 per year for the next 250 years, annually adjusted for inflation. All Black residents must also have their credit card debt, mortgages, and student loans paid-off by the city. The total cost - excluding the debt forgiveness - will be $1.3 trillion (the city's annual budget is $13.5 billion).

Does this plan not go far enough or is it a good start based in sound, rational policy design by the mature, moderate governance professionals of the Democratic Party?

Unfortunately for San Francisco taxpayers the city council is notorious for approving aspirational plans, though I'd fully expect more wording changes to allow people of Asian descent to be included before anything passes.

Your math isn’t quite correct… the documents states “raise income to” $97K/year… it’s presuming they have SOME income, so you wouldn’t pay $97K per your… you’d pay X… and X = $97K-what the “eligible person” earns.

Of course if you know that the State is going to make up the difference, and you only earn $40K working hard at McDonalds with overtime etc… then most rational people wouldn’t keep working for $40k then get $57k from the state. They are more likely to stop working and just get $97K.

The people who wrote this have no understanding of Economics and Economic incentives.

In addition to bankrupting the city of San Francisco this would create an immediate shortage of unskilled/low-skilled labor… and those people who wouldn;t be working would be bored and likely create other public health issues.

Probably causing a need for further reparations due to this bad policy.

I actually support reparations for slavery to the extent that I support the ADOS movement in which reparations are given only to proved descendants of slaves, and not all Black Americans, and based on an actual calculation of labor costs with amortized interest. Labor is property and can't be taken without compensation and, when it is, compensation must be rendered with penalty. (Democrats, however, aren't interested in compensating the injured for loss of labor, but in creating an excuse for a new social welfare program to create vote dependency, which is why they reject the ADOS premise.)

My understanding is that this would qualify about 50-percent of the U.S. Black population (the remaining 50-percent either consisting of descendants of Free Blacks or those who arrived after 1865). Payments would probably have to take the form of government-backed long-term annuities to avoid bankrupting the country and rendering the payments worthless after the dollar collapsed.

Virtually no unskilled/low-skilled labor has been able to afford to live in the city limits for 20+ years, so this isn't a problem.

The black population in SF is under 5%, the asian population is 35%. NOTHING in SF city council passes without the asian vote, and it doesn't come for free. If blacks were pushing asian in front of trains every day they would all be rounded up by the asian sheriff and put in interment camps.

A teenage girl became emotional last week after recalling seeing a naked biological man, who identifies as a transgender woman, while she was showering in her local YMCA's women's locker room.

Rebecca Phillips, who is 17 years old, explained to the Santee City Council in California, "As I was showering after my workout, I saw a naked male in the women’s locker room." She claimed she was "terrified" and retreated to hide behind the shower curtain.

Phillips further held back tears describing her younger sister, who is 5 years old, that she brings to the location during the summer.

"The locker room was supposed to be her safe haven to gossip with her friends and shower and change," she explained.

“As long as you are not a red flag on Megan’s Law — California sex offender registry — a grown male can shower alongside a teenage girl at your YMCA location here in Santee,” she said. “I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong when I talked to people at the YMCA.”

According to Section 51 of the California Civil Code, naked men have a right to the women’s locker room, if they claim womanhood.
