FBI investigates Minneapolis school shooting as anti-Catholic hate crime

A shooting at a school in Minneapolis that left two children dead and 17 others injured is being investigated as an anti-Catholic hate crime, the FBI says.

"The FBI is investigating this shooting as an act of domestic terrorism and hate crime targeting Catholics," FBI Director Kash Patel said in a post on X.

The two children, aged eight and 10, were killed when an attacker opened fire through the windows of the city's Annunciation Church on Wednesday morning as children were celebrating Mass.

The attacker, who died at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was later named by police as 23-year-old Robin Westman.

Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope, was among those who paid tribute to the young victims, saying he was "profoundly saddened" by the attack.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara:

O’Hara said authorities were working to determine a motive and that police were aware of a "manifesto" that the suspect had timed to be released on YouTube.

Buddhist monks are not allowed to kill. However, rabies is endemic in Southeast Asia, and sometimes Buddhist monasteries are beset by rabid dogs. I've read that they developed a sly workaround: The monks will prepare two meals, one with poison and one without, and leave them for the dogs. Then, when the dogs eat the poisoned food, the monks claim to be blameless, claiming that the dog exercised his free and independent will to choose the poisoned food.

The Genesis thing seems to be very similar. If there was a god, and if he made us in his image, of course he knows that we are both curious and acquisitive. Before I go down this path, I will say that for a person in Minneapolis to harbor such vile hate for innocent young school children AND then shoot and kill some innocent children is the epitome of PURE EVIL.

Next, guns AND transgenders do kill children in schools.

Most school shooters are male and most are NOT transgender. I have only found credible evidence that there have only been TWO transgender school shooters.

I investigated the Uvalde, Texas school shooting and I never heard any reference to a trans shooter before this post. There apparently was a rumor circulated by right-wing extremists that the shooter was trans. My limited reading suggests that this is FALSE.

I was aware of the Nashville shooter being trans or gender-fluid. And most of us are aware that the Minneapolis shooter was transgender (to some degree, including a name change). I will not post here about either as this is rather well documented.

As a teacher, first in public school (some 40 years) and now part-time at a private school, I try to stay aware of school shootings. I was only aware of two shootings involving a transgender person and my research this morning validates that situation. (I also try to determine some safety measures and prudent actions to take to be able to handle a horrible situation if one were to arise where I am. Our school now has supplies for teachers to offer immediate first aid and I practiced making sure that I can properly apply and use a touniquet. The identity of the shooter is NOT my primary concern as I keep aware of school shootings.)

What was the motive?

One conclusion I draw here is that locking the Church doors on the inside kept the killer OUT and prevented more deaths and a much bigger tragedy. Safety measures in place prevents many deaths, but NOT ALL. The facts that 17 were injured means (to me) that those injured could have been killed if this evil person got inside the church.
