Spider question...

Postby flashleg8 on Thu Nov 01, 2007 8:57 am

Anyone got any knowledge of spiders?

I saw this beast crawling outside my house in Scotland. Never seen anything like it before.
What the hell is it?

Okay okay its nothing like the man-eating things you have in Oz or Mexico - but WTF?!

Those are in my backyard all the time. I believe they are called The Crab Shelled Spider. Their Bite is less deadly than something like a Brown Recluse but It could kill you if not treated.

Cheers.

I was hoping for a "greater spotted indonesian hunting spider" or summit that would get me in the papers.

 garden spider doesn't sound quite as good really!

I had one of those things bite me while I was camping in a tent on the beach of Kapa'a Kauai, Hawaii! No friggin' lie! It hurt soooo bad, and it was in the middle of the night! It was in my sleeping bag with me! I hate those damn things!!!!! Bit me on my arm and right above my arse! You can't kill them like a normal bug, they just shrug off any type of clubbing you can muster! Best to either use a machette or if they are on a rocky surface, you can take a wire brush and rub them to death...but forget about trying to slap those suckers, like you do with mosquitos! No way you are going to squash centipedes like that one...that looks exactly like the one in my sleeping bag though! It brings back some fearful memories! Hope I never see another one...I even hate looking at photos like this one! Yikes!

as for the spider, I have never seen one like that, but it does look like a crab...that reminds me of the story of my friend from Jersey who was living with me in Arizona.

One day, I came home from work, and we had had problems with Brown Recluses in the past at the house. So I am in the bathroom and out of the corner of my eye, on the floor, I see a brown thing with four legs. I immediately stepped on it as it was crawling towards me. I squashed it good, and I went to the kitchen to get a papertowel to scoop it up.

As I was going to get the paper towel, I thought to myself that that didn't quite look like any spider that I knew of. Matter of fact, I think it was crawling side ways like a crab! "No Way!", I thought to myself. That couldn't be a friggin' crab! We don't have crabs in the desert!

So I went to pick the thing up off the floor, and to my surprise...it was a friggin' crab! i thought to myself that this is the weirdest thing I have ever seen! How did this crab get in our house????

Come to find out, my freind had a pet hermit crab named Hercules that he never told me about. Hercules was an escape artist and would often climb up the side of his aquarium and somehow lift the lid up and get out. He happened to have escaped a few days ago, but nobody told me about it.

I felt so bad that I killed his pet crab :(
