Don't these people have jobs?

How do these people pay their rent or buy food? Who is paying them money? I understand the elderly people can go protest, but what about the rest of these people? Don't they got jobs?

SSI Checks (Welfare), Food Stamps and sometimes a part-time job or day-labor thing. Not much, but one could live that way. I wouldn't, but then, I know the next person is quite likely to disappoint me even more whether I voted for them or not.

If they did, they probably don't have them anymore.

Maybe some people think there are more important things that jobs

Also (if they're anything like most activists that I know) they wouldn't be paying rent and wouldn't buy their food

It's called squatting and dumpster diving... as close as possible to living for free

In other words, a nuisance to society at the best of times.

squatting - if they were living in one of my homes and not paying rent i would find them a nuisance.

dumpster diving - not at all, go for it.

Squatting normally only happens in buildings that are empty and totally unused - if the 'owners' of said property don't even need it enough that they don't know that some people have moved in, then they don't even deserve to own it...

I guess the whole premise is like an urban hunter gatherer... hell of a lot better than the joke we call modern society

Spoken like a true human being...glad to see social awareness is alive and kicking, after all it because of good spirited people like you that many of these people are lifted out of the poverty trap they are in, and in turn, start to contribute to society, add to the national wealth and generally start living a life, well done.

Exactly how many Iraq War protesting dumpster diving squatters do you know radiojake? After all, America is the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Not sure exactly how your question is related to your 'land of the free' crap your spouting there, but i'll answer it anyway.

The exact number is hard to say, because I can't say that I have ever tried counting how many friends / people I know. Also, if you're asking how many American protest/activist/squatters I know, that would be 0 - seeing as I live in Australia and haven't yet graced the 'home of the brave' as yet.

If you read my first post, you'll also notice that I said

"...(if they're anything like most activists that I know) they wouldn't be paying rent and wouldn't buy their food..."

Clearly I don't know any of the protesters arrested in the article DaGip posted, but if they are anything like the people I know here in Australia and if they have the same ethics, they probably squat and dumpster dive. I dumpster dive all the time, and my brother has lived in and out of squats for the last 2 years.. Which answer's DaGip's question:

Don't these people have jobs? How do they pay for rent and food?
Answer: they don't have jobs, they don't pay for rent or food. Easy (obviously generalising, not all would be like this, but a large number would)

lol...don't you worry about such things suggs my boy. Jobs are for those of us sad enough to have to spend time away from playing some crazy world domination games.

Job is a book in the Old Testament. God let Satan plague him to see if Job would turn away from God, and Job never did!

So instead of discussing the massive failure that is the Iraq war, you're asking whether these protesters have jobs?

Good priorities, man.

The Iraq war sucks, all war sucks! But I got a job to do, I ain't got time or the finances to go play dress up and chain myself to the IRS. If these guys are students, they should be in class learning something, not causing division. Yeah, I don't like the war. Yeah, I don't like the way the government handled 9-11. Yeah, the economy is in the crapper. But instead of quitting my job and not paying taxes so I can go dress up like a terrorist so some stupid naive freshman can dump water on my head, that's just a little bit too ridiculous. Do these people understand that if they spark off a Civil War they will be squashed into oblivion by Bush and the NeoCons? The success of the Union is what is important, the division leaves us wide open to destruction. They need to go back to school, get back to their jobs, or back to pan handling.

Protest is an important aspect of democracy. If people don't consider issues like this more important than working the day or going to college, you're leaving yourself open to a totalitarian regime. If noone shows their disapproval of this, why would the next government care about it?
You're assuming these people are all a bunch of non-taxpaying citizens, while they could easily be people who took the day off because they thought this was something important.

How can you be arrested for resisting arrest? Don't they have to try to arrest you for something else first...and then when you resist...they can charge you with that too?

Actually I enjoy your forum hogging antics.

At least most of your threads are funny.

Even if they are fucking obnoxiously annoying at the same time.

Gip... you're almost kinda sounding somewhat conservative.

I think most people know you make this post tongue-in-cheek.

Yes... most of those protestors likely have jobs.

The majority of us ("us" being US citizen's in general and/or people who can afford computers and internet service)... if we cared enough... could take a day off to protest the War. We (again the majority of Americans) just don't care that much about it. Let's be honest and admit this.

The only other thing.... I highly doubt that a protests like this... minor or major... while cause the dissolution of the Union.

LOL
