There are tons of versions of it. Animals' version is the most famous, but that one is a cover. I don't think anyone is certain who wrote the original...

I'll be damned, I had no idea that it dates that far back (looking at Wikipedia).

That being said, Eric Burdon and the Animals is the definitive version imo.

I lied. I have heard the Muse version. I don't think it's quite up to snuff, though I do enjoy them quite a bit.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the Muse version. Though, I did like it when I first heard it, since it was the first time I heard the song.

I'm prrretty sure it's originally from Dylan. I personally enjoy both the Dylan and Floyd versions better than the newer ones I've heard.

Yeah... that link you posted to the "pink floyd" version... setting aside fuzzy stuff like play style, the vocalist cannot be anybody from that band. The voice sounds nothing like anything Barret, Waters, or Gilmour could have ever sung.

Green Day and U2 also did a cover of it for the New Orleans Hurricane Katrina relief concert thing. That was the first version of the song I've heard.

/edit: Well, kinda. But the basic melody of the song is there.
