Just curious if anyone else indulges in this guilty pleasure. So...

For those not in the know, this is the place you go if you want to lose all faith in humanity, or find some of the funniest things on the internet. Usually the former. Sometimes you get lucky. For example, this evening I was lurking about and came across a "girl who was taking requests for taking a picture of her doing things to her sleeping boyfriend." Among the obvious lewd requests, one that came up and spread like wildfire was "read him the Declaration of Independance!"

Holy Christ, I couldn't stop laughing. I don't know if this is a new meme or not, but it is probably one that I will be propagating in the next few days... anyone seen this before?

I've been there a few times. It wasn't the dog porn that turned me off it, I could have lived with that. It was the child porn and mutilated babies.

/b/ is the source of almost all the memes on the internet... it's kind of sad. Whenever I see someone using a /b/-originated meme, I feel like we're just feeding off scraps from the "asshole of the internet". Why can't we, as a community, come up with our own memes? I've said this in every community I've been in.

Yeah... that shit goes in with the awful cesspool of idiocy. Like I said, it's easy to see why our world is the way it is after browsing for a few minutes...

It's true. The fact of the matter is that the audience on /b/ is so massive that the input of most communities is dwarfed by it. So statistically, they're going to have more. Other than that, I'm not creative enough to start anything.

Also, this "why so serious" thing is starting to get on my nerves. For real.

Because /b/ has no standards of quality aside from "No CP". Enough idiots posting the first thing that comes to their mind and you'll get a meme, some lame some not. Most communities don't have that sort of environment.

Because a lot of communities are relatively isolated. However, due the shockingly wide userbase of 4chan, and the fact that most of them have no lives, they're able to be part of the 4chan community as well as a few other large ones. As such, a funny picture is posted, and immediately it's on a dozen other communities. Then it just kinda snowballs from there.

That's kinda what a meme is... An inside joke of the internet.

Habbo Hotel was funny the first time, all the other raids have just been newfags trying oh so desperately to fit in.

Other communities do have memes, just none as prolific as /b/ This place doesn't have many good ones as it's not a very hospitable environment. The members aren't that creative and the spam rules would kill off most memes before they got started.

However for the sake of it, CC memes:

Adding gfy to every poll.
This thread is huge.

That's all I can think of. Not very funny.

The userbase isn't the big problem, there were 4chan memes before its userbase got so large. The userbase just ensures the proliferation of the memes. Unfortunately because everyone's looking for the next meme these days any terrible post can become a meme, so the creativity becomes irrelevant.

/b/ is a chore to browse, so I don't really go there anymore.

I've seen "This Thread is Huge" in other forums.

gfy does not originate here, but demanding that it's an option in every poll is a CC meme I think. Although that seems to have died out. I've never seen this thread is huge elsewhere, but if it is I'd say it's unlikely it spread from here given autoload is the only person really behind it. More likely that either it came the other way or it developed in multiple places independently of each other.

Yeah I read that earlier. It's quite an interresting and scary article.

I'm having quite an interresting discussion on it about whether the people portrayed in the article are sociopaths or just assholes.

I imagine it would be hard to argue against sociopathy in these individuals. Empathy seems to be heavily lacking.
