5 most evil dictators (in no order)

Postby brooksieb on Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:47 am

Adolf Hitler
Slobodan Milosevic
Mao Zedong
Josef Stalin
Pol Pot

That's probably not my final decisions but that's what 1st comes to my mind.

Get rid of Saddam and put in Pol Pot.
The big trouble with dumb bastards is that they are too dumb to believe there is such a thing as being smart.

Yeah, Stalin and Pol Pot should be higher; Saddam was never as bad as those two.

All the suggested ones were later than 19th century. Are earlier candidates allowed?

If Mao Zedong was so evil, then why is he on every picture in China (I don't remember much about him from history, just that he tried to go back to the old and he failed. The rest is all HISTORY  )
I had to..

There's so many "worthy" candidates that it's hard to pick just 5.

Hitler - Speaks for itself.
Stalin - Arguably worse than Hitler.
Nero - The Roman emperors were so bad that one could arguably make a type 5 most evil list containing only these guys. In my opinion Nero was the worst of the bunch.
Vlad "the impaler" Tepes - While not technically a dictator and rather the equivalent of a governor, he was a big enough prick to make this list.
Pol Pot - Probably the one that I hate the most. Is currently serving an eternal sentence in Hell.

I should have said: I was aiming my question at the thread originator.
Your contribution was part of the reason why.

In his efforts to industrialize he forced farmers to work in factories instead of growing food, while at the same time he didn't modernize agriculture, so the result was some 26 million people starved to death because he refused to allow farmers to leave the factories.

Saddam was just as bad ethically as any of those listed. We're talking about a guy whose home movie collection was comprised of torture videos which were made for entertainments sake as opposed to some political motivation. Saddam didn't have the power to take as many lives as the others listed but ethically he should be in the top three worst..

Interesting side note, Saddam's personal hero was Joseph Stalin. He thought that Stalin was something to aspire to and it's no coincidence that their physical appearence was almost the same as Saddam tried to look like Stalin.

And yet, the Chinese still love him. They see him as the one who finally brought honor back to China, after being humiliated by being basically carved up by the West.

What not Caligula? Commodus?

At least Nero had an urban renewal plan.

I was referring to the fact that the Romans had so many...

PS. I would have chosen Caligula.
