What was your favorite cartoon when you were a kid?

Postby DaGip on Sat Aug 23, 2008 8:59 pm

The first cartoon character that I can remember that I really liked was Popeye the Sailor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJYkp1HT9Kc.

I know there were a lot of cartoons that I watched and considered my favorite while growing up, but Popey is the first I can remember that I really liked! I used to dream about eating a big can of spinach and picking up cars and houses and stuff! I used to eat canned spinach all the time! I loved the stuff! But now I would never touch canned spinach. Only the fresh kind...

Only bad thing about Popeye is that he smoked and punched people...not a very good role model (except for eating spinach, but not necessarily the canned type).

Popeye was always cool. I loved the 80's saturday morning cartoons:

Dungeons & Dragons
Thundar the Barbarian
Looney Toons

...and Star Blazers that aired in re-runs all week after school.

I was of the Thomas the Tank Engine era... Good stuff! But I was more a puppet person than cartoons. It's no surprise considering there's 10's of thousands of dollars worth of puppets in the house...

Oh man, that's long ago. Might have been either the Tiny Toons or the Moomins, hard choice in retrospect.

Hey Arnold and Rugrats were my two favorites. From the 90's.

But then again, Dexter's Laboratory is not to be underestimated either.

Loony Toons.

Which by the way were recently replaced by bullshit. :x

Popeye at my youngest (which be early 70's)
Then Alvin and the Chipmunks along with the Bullwinkle Show
Then Pink Panther and Pixie N' Dixie

In the 80's:
Spiderman and Friends, SuperFriends, Godzilla PowerHour, Dungeon and Dragons, GI Joe, Transformers, and Inspector Gadget

90's I wasn't paying attention too much to regular cartoons, started looking at Vampire Hunter D and Akira, also Warriors of the Wind...but mostly I got more into reading comic books.

Now, I really like Inuyasha...if it's on TV, I got to stop what i am doing and watch it, no matter what episode it is...I am such an Inuyasha addict!

Rocky & Bullwinkle and Alvin & the Chipmunks (both 50s and 80s/90s ones).

As a kid, without doubt, Johny Quest. (the original, not the 90's version, which I like but not nearly s much)
I bought the DVDs of the series a while back. Still rocks, and I absolutely remebered most of the episodes in huge detail.
The only cartooon series ever to come close was the 90's Batman Adventures.
Today, I don't watch a lot of TV, but I've been impressed by what I've seen of Avatar, and I do like Justice League Unlimited.
For the funnies, probably the Flintstones as a kid, closely followed by Tom & Jerry.

Pokemon was my favorite by far. I also watched a lot of other Nick, CN, and Disney channel stuff. And Thomas The Tank Engine, though it wasn't on any of those channels. Most of them are still good in retrospect and the good stuff isn't as good.

Inuyasha is awesome. One of my 3 favorite shows. (Others being Pokemon and Black Cat)

Shippo is awesome. In fact I used to have him as my avy. Actually since I've been reading the manga since I want to know what happens in the end, I would be wearing one. BUT I got owned by Exile. :(

Superfriends was the cartoon I looked forward to on Saturday mornings... Wondertwin Powers Activate!

Now that I'm a bit more mature, I think Rocky and Bullwinkle is absolutely brilliant - Fractured Fairy Tales, Mr. Peabody's History, Aesop and Son, Dudley Do-Right... all those segments are still relevant and hilarious today.

I just barely remember the Robotic Stooges:

I do remember Jabber Jaw pretty well though...I liked that cartoon when I was a kid!

and this wasn't a cartoon, but this show really rocked when I was young!

I used to like Inuyasha but it got too repetitive. Hunt after Naraku, Naraku comes up with brilliant plan to kill them, plan fails, find Naraku but blow their chance at killing him. After a while I just lost interest.

Hecter, you surprise me yet again. Thomas the Tank Engine was my favourite program when I was very young.
Later on, I watched stuff like Tom and Jerry, Lonney Tunes plus all the Cartoon Network classics.
Yes, even the PowerPuff Girls, which was damn awesome. Who could forget HIM?

If the show was based on reality, Naraku would have killed everybody in the third or fourth episode.

But I really enjoyed the demon-hunter aspect of the program and the fighting brothers relationship between Shoshomuru and Inuyasha was intriguing. Shoshomuru would have slaughtered Inuyasha if he didn't possess the Tetsiga. (I don't know if I am spelling these names right).

In the beginning, the program was just based on demons acquiring crystal jewel shards, then the party would have to kill whatever demon had it and take the jewel shard back. Then the program became more Naraku focused, and Naraku started making demons out of his own body, so Inuyasha and his friends had to deal with different aspects of Naraku.

I would say that Lord Shoshomuru was my favorite character out of the whole program. He was a powerful loner, with just a touch of hidden sympathy for the peasant girl he saved and restored to life, Ren.

I would have been fine if the Inuyasha creators would have just had a Shoshomuru series instead, but Inuyasha was alright. I was entertained by each episode, and it was kind of neat to start watching it from the beginning to see how everybody comes together and what their backgrounds are. I think that is where I got hooked. Inuyasha and Kogomai were always running into new friends, each of which had their own unique story to add to the program.

I kind of agree that Inuyasha's brother (I'm not even going to try to spell it) was an interesting character and that at the beginning, the show seemed very interesting but over time it just got repetitive.
